I am thinking about doing this 12 week challenge (fitforlife by PVL). They want you to take glutimine after your work out and before bed. I have never used this product before or heard anything about it. Can anyone tell me the benifits of taking this ???? Its really expensive...lol.

for a very brief description of the benefits of glutamine:
"Glutamine is one of the most versatile of all amino acids, and among the top aminos used by elite athletes. Among its many functions, glutamine detoxifies ammonia, regulates protein synthesis and protein degradation, functions as a nitrogen precursor and transfer, promotes cellular hydration, stimulates growth hormone production, maintains acid balance, boosts the immune system, is an energy precursor and increases glycogen production in the liver. In short, glutamine is both anabolic and anti-catabolic. Glutamine accounts for about 60% of the body’s total intramuscular free amino-acid pool and 20% of the total circulating amino acids. Unlike almost all other aminos, glutamine contains two nitrogen atoms. Because of this additional nitrogen atom, glutamine is called a nitrogen “shuttle.” Glutamine transports nitrogen where the body needs it most."
pure L-Glutamine (NOT glutamic acid, NOT glutamine peptides) is the most readily available form, and is also the most expensive. in my opinion, though, it is a very good investment.

Here's a link to learn more about it:

I don't really feel a difference from glutamine when I take it. But when I don't, I can tell my recovery time is noticeably extended. Its good stuff; I'd encourage everyone that works out with a moderate to high intensity level to take it.

L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body. It is also used by the body at a pretty ravenous rate. So it makes sense to supplement it before and after training, I do 10 gr. prior, and 15 post. You see, nothing can be achieved in the recovery process until all norms are restored. That means L-Glutamine, blood sugar levels stabilized, etc. I personally think L-Glutamine is extremly important after intense cardio with a proteind drink, to help preserve lean mass. L-Glutamine will also enhance the uptake of your protein drink into thirsty muscle cells, so therefore if nothing else a best bet to do, L-Glutamine, 10-15gr., protein, and your creatine. Makes a mighty potent post workout cocktail. rev8ball put up an excellent post if you care to know more "science" of it.
