I'm currently using Weider muscle gain protein powder and it is the most disgusting thing in the world ever. The only reason i use it is cos it has 32g protein per serving (18g carb, 5.6g fat) and being a veggie weight lifter, i think i need that much. It so lumpy (even blended) and has a bizarre after taste of paper. Are they all this bad or can someone suggest one that is actually tolerable that i can get hold of in the uk, and has as much protein as the one i currently use? I had real bad experience with several different brands of protein powders and have found that neutral tasting ones are the best. I personally use a pure soy protein from Holland and Barrett. I can’t remember the name but it comes in fairly big cylindrical cardboard tub with a green label and costs about £10.It has virtually no flavour but when liquidised with milk and banana provides a nice tasteing protein shake. Because you have a certain degree of control over the ratio of fats, carbs and protein (varying between full fat and skimmed milk, how may bananas you use and how much protein powder) it is a lot more flexible. Its also based on soy protein so is veggie safe and a complete protein source (contains all essential amino acids). As for protein intake I use 1 scoop (~28g) than about 300ml milk and 1 banana so will give comparable protein intakes to your current powder. The fresh banana also provides electrolytes (which frequently need replacing after training) and complex carbs. |

First off ditch the Weider...it sucks for more reasons than taste. You may do this...design your own. You can get any mix of proteins, flavorings, etc. you want at www.proteinfactory.com.Good luck -------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

Don't focus so much on the amount of protein per serving - that can change with serving sizes, concentrate on the yield (amount of protein/weight of the serving). If your serving is around 65 grams and it only has 32g of protein, that kind of sucks. I use Biotest's low-carb grow during cutting and you can scoop out 20g servings of it to make as much protein as you want. Remember, protein consumption does not always equate to protein utilization. Be careful of poor results caused by poor absorption and inferior grades of whey. It may say 50 gr. of protein per serving on the label. But even if the label is correct, how much of this protein are you actually utilizing fro muscular growth? Ask yourself, are you adding pounds of muscles, or am I still the same or am I maybe even getting just fatter?.If you experience any of these, maybe you should change your protein....Gas or bloating, Poor taste, Hard to mix, Limited (if any) gains in muscle size and strength, no fat loss. Be smart, I am sure you all work hard for your money, and it is a shame to waste it on inferior products making some scam company rich!-------------- The one goal you will NEVER achieve is the one you never attempt. |

Hi bbfit,What is wrong with Weider? Although it tastes like crap and is hard to mix, i have noticed a significant gain in muscle mass since i began using it. I also get 32g protein per 33g scoop. There are many more companies that are better than weider. AST EAS, to name a few. Higher quality products. |
