Are you talking about red bull or any of those other drinks?

I took a red bull once before a workout because I was already tired. It seemed to work pretty well...gave me some extra energy to get through the workout without tiring as much. But, it wasn't a huge amount of energy increase for me...I have red bulls every once and a while and it never seems to do alot for me. Basically just makes me a bit alert from all the caffine. I think I read in a fit magazine a while ago that it was actually good for you to take red bull and other energy drinks because of the taurine. I'll find the magazine and get back to you about it.

Ok Carivan, The magazine I read it in was Muscle & Fitness Feb 2003 edition. I'll try to summarize most of what it says...if you're interested in getting the hard copy, let me know and I can probably scan it for you.

-Basically in the energy drinks like Red Bull that have taurine, its beneficial to weight-lifting because our muscles deplete taurine fastest during intense exercise. It also says that it increases endurance because blood pumped per heart beat increases up to 21% w/ 1 gram of taurine giving more oxygen to your muscles. Taurine also allows you to have more forceful contractions in your muscles.

It says a bit more and goes into more deatil, but those are the main things. After reading this, it seems to me that the energy drinks are nothing but fluid containing taurine and caffeine. I guess drinking a cup of coffee and taking 1g of taurine will give you the same results. Hope that helps.

The best I've ever seen is Rage: not only does it have 5 different stims, but also protein, carbs and vitamins/minerals. It has about a 2 hour half life, and then, since it's like eating a small meal, begins a gradual decrease, aka, no crash. But it is extremely powerful. I call it liquid rockey fuel (LOL)!
