whoever says lifting wont affeect ur height is lie,it possibly can.Just one week ago i read a report of proffessor in some journal that if u're teen and lift weights the mass of the weights must not be bigger than 20% of ur body.I agree with that.i was 16 when started lifting,mu height was 189.5 cm ,now im 18 and 190 cm tall.I can see lifting slowing my height down. As the suggestion to all teens i want this to be a small lesson.Dont take big weight as u entered the gym.Take ur time. ---------------------------- ~Dont judge and u will not be judged~ |

Well it is true that if you start lifting heavy before your growth plates are done (by that I mean that you have reached you total adult height) you can stunt your growth. But after that it should have no effect, and really you height is mostly related to you genes anyway.-------------- Life comes by only once....Live it to the fullest! |

I agree with mutt.. genetics played 99% of this.. unless you start really really young. Most indivduals can start a program as young as 15-16 years of age.-------------- .o0 Arnold 0o...o0 theaustrianoak@hotmail.com 0o. |

7lb is a small weight.u dont have to stop lifting it.take weight of 25-30% of ur body.use this formula ur weight*20%of ur body/100% |

i lift weights...but I also go my *girl thing* at a very early age, (9) and I havent grown since I was 9 years old. I started lifting when I was 12 and I am in the middle of my second growth spurt and this spurt is actually bigger then my first one so who knows...-------------- Tiffany Der #10 "You have to make it through the rain in order to see the Rainbow........." |

What stunts your growth is workingout before the growth is started and done...around 14-16 is a good time depending on the person. It really has no other effect...-------------- Life comes by only once....Live it to the fullest! |

IF anything...even though I am growing taller, I may have been even taller....if i didnt work out that much.. o wellBesides lifting weights 3-4 times a week i don't think that 3 light cardios and 1 heavy cardio's a week will kill ya -------------- Tiffany Der #10 "You have to make it through the rain in order to see the Rainbow........." |

It really depends on how heavy you lifted while you were growing, the first spurt is usually the largest, since as a woman you start much earlier than a man. But I do not think light workouts will hurt you at all.-------------- Life comes by only once....Live it to the fullest! |

A lot of studies have been conducted on this subject. I'm just wondering how tall most football & basketball players would have been had they not lifted weights ?! -------------- keep rockin' |

No as long as the workouts stay light weight and high reps with good form. Also have them use compund exercises and bodyweight. Watch the 13 the most but it willonly help them.-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I'd like to see just 1 reliable study that proves this...or at least shows good relationship...unless the teens do max lifts....moderate progressive weight will not stunt growth...there are plenty people who worked out since 13-14 years old and still grew well over 6'0 ....genes, environmental elements, etc all play bigger roles than proper moderate exercise....those who say they started working out and didn't grw much after...don't consider the fact that there are many situations where brothers in the same family are considerably different in height....or the fact that their parents are fairly short...there are many confounding variables that could explain such occurrences...

Lifting done properly in your teens will enhance your height. A spike in growth hormone from weight training could spike your height. If you are just flat out doing stupid things in the gym then yes you could damage a growth plate. So, just be smart when you train and stop worrying so much about it.
