I am an avid strength trainer and scratch golfer dreaming of making it on the PGA Tour. I have read some articles on explosive training and would like to try it to improve POWER in my golf swing. Has anyone tried this type of training and had results ? If so, could you give me some movements that were successful. Thanks

Hi mcinnis. I haven't heard anything regarding explosive training helping your golf game. I'm a 10 handicap and I found by strength training that I do have a little more power however, I noticed flexibility can be adversely affected if one doesn't include a good stretching routine in their program. Obviously as one increases muscle mass, a lack of stretching will give the impression of having less flexibility. As you know, flexibility is key in golf. The ability to coil and get full shoulder and back movement is critical. So whatever strength program you are working or choose, i.e., explosive training, keep that in mind. One thing that will frustrate us golfers quickly will be adversity to our golf game. Believe me, I know! DK

Well Rev, most golfers would wrap their club around a tree when angry. Judging by the size of you, you would wrap the tree around the club. lol Would be a riot seeing you launch your bag of clubs into the ol pond. hehe DP

Hey mcinnis, I have trained with weights for a long time and play to a 6 handicap. dpking is right, make sure you keep your flexibility high. Seems like most power is generated from a big shoulder turn and perfect timing which translates into a high swing speed. Several months ago there was an article in one of the golf magazines about the long drive competitions. Those guys lift weights BIG TIME, especially for the lower body. However, if you look at their swing, the shoulder turn and how far they go past parallel it is amazing. Strength and flexibility is a hard combination to beat
