is 1 rep max really nessacery to test your stenght. If so, how to do them right without straining/hurting yourself? One time I did 225lbs on deadlifts, I did 2 reps, but i felt so guilty after that, because at the end i might end up hurting myselfd without gaining any other benefit--i surely don't look any stronger of trying a risky stunt as that!!

just make sure you keep proper form while you do them. No matter what it is. There's nothing wrong with finding out where your limits are. Everyone has to find out sometime. It's when the ego starts making you think you can lift more than you can is when it starts getting dangerous.

If you look in the fitness resources at the top of the site, there is a 1 rep max calculator which can give you an estimate.

however if your a beginner, I would suggest getting a spotter on squats deads and benches. I do a max rep, which is weight I know I can control an dhave a good feel for.I do it 2 or 3 times and thats my max reps......I know next time if I do the same weight 4 times I have gotten stronger. ONe rep maxes do help for knowing howmuch power you can exhert one time at the max. KInda fun to know that you can forcfully push so much weight even if it is one time.

trim......a spotter isn't there just to pull the weight of fyou its to make sur eyour form is correct. I meant "spotter" in a since meaning someone to watch him, that knows what hes doing.
In high school we had to have a spot on every lift with a bb........a spoter on deadlifts, stand behind the lifter. Many unexpieranced lifters may get off balance, or "roll" the shoudler to far back trying to lock out, loose the grip and fall back. SO yes a spottter for a beginer on any lift is good. I have seen some intresting things in highschool envolving the dead

The one rep max is the ultimate goal of the powerlifter. It's what we train for absolute strength. When the judge gives the go ahead it's all on the line you either make the lift or you dont. :dumbbell:
