I did both simultaneously. Just change your personal profile and exercise routine, and choose the 12-week ab blast program. When you access your exercises for the week, you'll get a separate schedule for your abs workout.Good luck! P.S. The 12-week ab program progressively gets tough...glad you're up to the challenge! |

you can do your ab routine at the end of your work out OR at a different time of day if you can fit it in. I find if I save it for the end of the day I don't fit it in. |

I am doing the 12 week ab routine plus the toning and I do them whenever it says to. I usually do my workout then my abs and the results are great. I am getting ready to go into my fourth week and I am very pleased with this program. I spend les time in the gym and I am seeing the results a lot faster. |

What I did was work on my abs on my weight training rest days (I know some people may object to this) as well as on the days I work on shoulders or biceps/triceps. I'm on my 10th week of the 12-week ab program. It's definitely more challenging now. Also, I'm beginning a second 8 week program (progressive this time, instead of mass). Good luck. |

try doing them first in your workout/ a lot of people neglect their abs cause they wait till the end of their workout to do them and by then they are to tired.david |

Well David there is a reason why you should always do your abs in the end of your work out and not to start with. When lifting heavy we use the abs and lower back muscles to block the body so we can lift, push or pull. Not a good idea to get those abs too tired before or you'll take an unnecessairy risk of might hurting yourself. |

There's a lot of disagreement about abs first/last. I personally like to do an intermediate ab workout at the start along with back hyperextensions to get everything warmed up, especially before working legs. |

I agree with Nina, abs are best done after your work-out for the reason mentioned. I also think after cardio is a good time, as you cool down. You can split you abs too one day: obliques next day: abs |

It's not the difficult, it's all a question about the degree of your abs workout. Some people train them harder than others.... |

very good point! was not thinking .... i my self do not do abs on leg day do to exactly of what you stated but on other days i do them first or rather second after i warm up on a stationary bike then i do some abs which tend to help me stretch my muscles before i lift. maybe with myself it works better this way. |

i like working abs after my main workout. the last thing i want to do is run out of energy in the middle of a set because i worked abs first. |

for the 12-week ab program, do the excercises ever change or is it all the crunches, leg raises, and seated twists? |

I don't recall, but if you are worried about intensity it gets harder as you go along and you will definitely be happy by the time those 12 weeks are up. |

While Philia is right about the danger of fatiguing your abs early in the routine, I think that always training a muscle group last can lead it to lag behind the others. I think that you should try to rotate what exercises you do first in a workout (not necessarily from workout to workout, but at least from cycle to cycle). Your muscle's glycogen stores are obviously at their peak for that first movement in the workout and therefore that first group gets the best workout. If you're always doing abs last, you're not going to get quite as good of a workout for them. A lot of people will do a four day split where they train the big muscle groups (back/bi, chest/tri, quads/hams) on the first three days and do the remaining - forearms, abs, calves, shoulders - on the fourth. This can eliminate the danger that Philia was talking about. Personally, I do abs on chest/tri day, but I use dumbbells almost exclusively so I have less to worry about. |
