Hi, I just joined and completed my personal assessments. My nutrition program says I should be eating 2850 calories a day based on a slow metabolism and sedentary lifestyle. That can't be right...can it??

2800 is the maximum calories should you take in per day. Remember, eatting doesn't make you fat. Its eatting junk and not doing anything is what makes people fat.

A lot of people have the idea that the only way to lose fat is by starving themselves... and that is a far cry from the truth. Consider your matenince calories: (Your Weight(lbs) x 10) + (Your Weight/2). These are the calories you need to exsist. Anything less and your body goes into starvation mode: It will eat up your muslce tissue and store all the fat it can get.

Weightx10+weight/2=? So ie; 165 x 10 = 1650 + 165 = 1815 / 2 = 907.5. Is that correct? I'd be starving for sure!

Errr... close, but no. Its (165*10) = 1650 + (165/2) = 1732.5 calories.

Thanks so much for the info. I never knew my body needed that many calories just to exist. Maybe that's part of the problem...

Just make sure to get your calories from wholesome foods like lean protiens, veggies, whole grains, etc... Theres tons of great posts on diet here, but one things stays constant: Eat healthy and eat more often.
