I am playing football this year, played 2 years ago, but not last year. Our coach has a weight program set up for us. During 4th block at school most of the team comes in and does their workout for the day. Usually we do upper body (such as bench press and incline on mondays) and auxiliaries on Mondays. Tuesdays we do squats and powerclean, also along with auxiliaries. Rest Wednesday. Thursday is the same as monday and Friday is like Tuesday. This is usually a 50 minute of so workout, then 40 minutes or so of agilities and then stretching to finish it off.

What I am basically wanting to know is if its okay to wake up and do a workout in the morning around 5:00a.m.. Working out like on benchpress, preacher curls, and crunches. Do the workout at school and then later at night at like 7:30 do another workout of whatever I worked out at school. Like if it was monday my upper body and if Tuesday lower body etc. Followed up by jogging. I was wondering if that would at all be overtraining my muscles or not. I know my muscles need rest and shouldn't work out the same muscle group 2 days in a row, but this is all the same day.

So please give me a little advice. I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

YES this will lead to overtraining and most likely an injury, loss of strength and illness. Just do the workouts they have set up for you.

Listen, doing pushups every day with abs is just going to lower your ability to heal from the workouts...you could do abs every other day and do puch ups along with chest day.

Thanks for the heads up. Is it okay to do things like push-ups and situps every morning. Maybe like 50 or each along with the workouts that my coaches give me. Also going jogging a mile 5 times a week is that okay?

I played backup Linebacker when I played. The coaches said I was good and I was a hard hitter and could read the plays but I wasn't as fast as the other kid. So what I want to do is increase my endurance, build muscle and lose the fat I have without losing my size and truthfully I don't know the best way to go about this. I am right now about 5 feet 11 inches and about 230 pounds. Being a linebacker I just basically need to get faster, but being a human and being pressed to be in same I want to lose my extra weight and get stronger and more defined muscles.

Could someone help me out? Like maybe how many days to work out a week. I have to follow the workout that my coaches give me. So maybe some other stuff I can do on the side to meet the goals I am looking for. The workout the coaches provide seem to be gaining strength. We max every month or so and in 2 maxes have went up 30 pounds in bench, 20 in powerclean, and about 80 in squat. The thing is I don't seem to be losing fat. I look about the same, but stronger. Need something that will get me to lose fat that I can do along with the football workout I do. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Sounds like you need to focus on power building moves that will help you to be faster, not push-ups and sit-ups and overtraining in the weight room.

Get up early, go to the track and do sprint work and agility drills.

Check strongerfasterbetter online 9do a search) and see what comes up, you should be able to find some examples of what to do, some plyometrics, sprint drills and shuffles.

I have heard some good things about HIIT. I have 3 days off per week without any scheduled workout. That is Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Could I do HIIT? Jog for 30 seconds, sprint for 30, etc. you know? Doing it on days that I don't have weight training would that work?

Asimmer, the team does agilities after our weight training. We switch it up so one day we do bag drills, other days we do sprints, suicides, shuffles, and other things along that line.

You could try HIIT, or you could rest, as it sounds like you really do get a lot of workouts in on the other days.
Have you spoken with the coach about this?

I haven't talked to the coaches yet, but plan to soon. I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem with me doing HIIT since they encourage going the extra mile and working hard.

Going the "extra mile" sometimes means backing off a bit. With a bit more rest, I bet you would find yourself getting quite stronger. Many coaches go way overboard on this, and the funny fact is you don't see them doing it! Adequate rest is a commandment in this endeavor, not a passing thought.

emotions.......i can tell from your posts... yoru wanting to look good as well as be a football player...........well heres wher eyou need to descide........athlete.....or bodybuild( workout to look good)........unfortunally can't be both........you don't need chicled abbs or nice chest to be a good football player.........just explosive and athletic.

I'd suggest for your cardio.......if its ok with your coach ....run 100yard sprints run one, rest 30 sec run another 4 5 times whatever.
