I am currently midway through week 6 of my 8 week losing and toning program and have hit a wall. I initially started at 180 pounds and am currently at 174.5 - 175 pounds. It appears that the loss has come to a grinding halt so my question is should I cut calories even more?
My current diet is very clean, I meet my protein levels daily, come close to my carb levels daily, for a total of between 1700 - 1900 calories each day. Should I drop this amount by another 100 - 200 calories? Cut carbs in favor of more protein? While I do feel more toned I am disappointed at the overall results thus far and discouragement is quickly setting in. Nowhere near giving up but pretty bummed nonetheless. I am all out of ideas on how to lose the remaining 10 - 15 pounds of fat and would greatly appreciate ANY suggestions on what I should do. On a side note before and after pics will be posted at the end of week 8. Either I have a really skewed idea of what I truly look like or I am doing something wrong. I have read several people on the board talk about their excellent results and am left wondering why I am failing at reaching my goals. |

Hey there luvthemtorts, 1700-1900 calories a day seem pretty low. From a quick glance and past history of your question, may I suggest something that has worked extremely well for me and others its called carb cycling. It has been very effective for me in weight loss and I highly recommend it. If you do a search for carb cycling or "loss of strength" you will find some good info on it posted by bb1 who recommended it to me. It takes a lot of discipline but if your up for it shoot me an IM and I'll give ya some more info on it.

I am on board with Justin. I'm 5'7" and 160 currently and trying to lose. I'm trying really hard to ear ~2000 calories a day as recommended by the nutritional tracker.
My best recommendation: start using the nutiritional tracker. Sounds like you're starving your bod. |

My nutrition tracker suggests roughly 2300 calories as a maximum. Eating healthy I can barely eat enough to reach the 1700 - 1900 calories a day.
I am considering trying the carb supplements to give me a source for extra carbs and calories. Any thoughts on this? My wife mentioned this evening that I was "out of control" and "look emaciated" but I swear when I look in the mirror I see a person with at least 15 pounds of fat more to lose. Regardless of whether or not its in my head, I do know I am not happy with my appearance!! By the way, Thanks Justin for the PM explaining the proper way to carb load! I am going to try it starting on Monday. |

Why?
It isn't her body. I am trying to build my body to a point where I am happy, not someone else. |

Glad to help Jackie, I'm sure your making more progress than you think. But to be successful in bodybuilding you kinda need to be a little objective I understand that but make sure you realize the progress your making.

It could be that your muscles grew to out do the fat loss to show on the scale. If you are gaining muscle that could keep you from seeing fat loss - did you use a tape measure before you started?? if so compare how you are doing-------------- Reddy All people smile in the same language |

I also think that you need to eat some more calories. I would get your baseline diet down first, before going into carb cycling. I think that your sending your body into survival mode. By this i mean that by eating to little your telling your body that there is a shortage of food and that it needs to slow down, you metabolism is probably slowed quite a bit and your body will hold onto the fat on your body if it thinks your starving. Have you been eating 5-7 meals a day? I think you need to get out of the mind set that you need to loose th e weight "now". It takes time to do it right but you've got plenty of time your not getting ready for a show right? Just take your time everything will work out.

Justin,
I am indeed eating 5 - 6 meals a day. I honestly don't see how I can be starving myself since I am never hungry between meals and it is all I can do to eat the entire meal at each setting. The picture that is now up (thanks George!) is unfortunately the wrong one. It shows me after a weightloss of 55 pounds. Hopefully in a day or so the new pic will show my current progress at week 6 (5 pounds lighter and possibly slightly more toned). After it is posted I would appreciate your input as far as where to go once I am done with the 8 week course. |

I appologize for trying to be honest. I'm a caring and compassionate person and what you have said made me concerned.
When your wife used the word "emaciated" it did not present a good image. Yes - you have to be happy with you. But it has to be a healthy you. Emaciated is a word I associate with eating disorders. Often a common symptom of an eating disorder is making statements exactly as you posted "but I swear when I look in the mirror I see a person with at least 15 pounds of fat more to lose." I hadn't seem a picture of you when I posted previously and it just didn't sound good. My brain created a draft of "you" that may or may not have been accurate. I lost a friend to an eating disorder so I guess I'm a little sensitive. you're asking for friendly advise but shun it when it is offered. Your calories are very low and to gain muscle you need fuel. No more input from me. I'm sorry for giving a hoot. |

Artemis,
No offense was taken and I certainly didn't mean to come across as rude! I was simply asking why I should consider my wifes' views versus trying to achieve a look I would be pleased with. As you can see from the photo (7weeks ago/5 pounds heavier) I am nowhere near skin and bones. I do appreciate your input and am grateful you cared enough to reply. Once again my apologies for a post that offende you due to poor wording on my part! |
