Hey,

I have about 9% body fat, but my abs still don't show through. I know I have strong abs because I can feel them.
How can I get them to show?

Thanks!

At 9% bf, your abs should be showing. Do you see them when you flex them? How did you get your bf% done? Are you sure it is 9%? And even if you are 9%, if you do not have developed abs, there is simply nothing to show(6 pack). These are built like any other muscle, resistance work, good diet and rest.

I can see my abs when I flex them. I just cannot see them as clear as I can when they're not flexed.

Excellent point. There are many ways to estimate body fat %, most of which are wild guesses. The only totally accurate method is cadaver dissection, which is less than desireable. Aside from than that, imaging techniques such as DEXA (dual X-ray absorptiometry) & MRI are pretty accurate but not very accessible for this prupose. Underwater weighing protocols are accurate to about +-4-5% (i.e. if this method estimates 9.0 % B.F. it's probably somewhere between 8.55% and 9.45%).

Protocols which rely on skinfold and girth measurements cannot be relied on to give a reasonably accurate estimate of % B.F. The main practical use of this method is to assess an individual's progress over time rather than to say 'you have X % B.F. Even at that, such a protocol should be done by the same tester and they need to be well trained & highly experiend for it to be meaningful.

I use calipers and my B'F % can fluctuate quite a bit my moving them an inch to the left or right.

Ab you have talked abotu this before, and i gave you and answer at almost 6 ft tall an dlike 140l bs you may actually be starving yourself from a six pack..........theres more important things than a six pack. Being healthy is one of them.
Another thing, the abb pics you see in mags and on stage of body builder and fitness buffs, are flexing their abbs........ronnie coleman jay cutler all have nice abbs, but when not flexed, they look liek they have a lil "beer gut".........its a ll abotu the shap of your abbs, the muscle you have all determine your six pack.
Also if yoru really pale( not tan) a six pack won't show up as well.

san....a six pack is one of the most elusive goals in fitness because it depends mostly on losing bodyfat through your diet. You can train your abs with as many exercises you want, but you'll never show a six pack until the fat covering the muscle is gone. To be reasonable, I would set about a 3-4 month timeframe for noticeably improved abs, so it's not a matter of a few weeks. Eat clean and often, and check out other posts on here about cutting bodyfat. As it's been said here many times, "Abs are made in the kitchen."

the thing is that im not fat in fact i only weight 140 and i can say that im skinny so that's why i thought that at least i was going to see some kind of progress but thanks anyway mzakal and see the problem is that when i do crunches and then stand up i can see them a little bit but when i wake up the next morning or after i eat somthingall that is going the same thing happens to my chest after i do about 200 push ups i can see areally great chest on me but when i go to sleep and wake up the next morning my chest still the same and i've been doing push ups for about 6 months now and nothing

I hear what you're saying, Chris, but remember that being skinny doesn't necessarily mean your bodyfat is low. To really get the six pack showing, you're probably gonna need to get below 10% bodyfat, which very few people can do without closely monitoring their diet. As far as the pushups, it sounds like you've reached a "pushup plateau." You'll probably have to incorporate weight training to make more progress. Good luck!
