Consuming foods highly concentrated in sugar, such as juice and white bread spikes your glucose levels due to the lack of fiber, which is why eating whole fruits and whole grains is better. Would consuming these less suitable foods, such as juice and white bread, be fine than if one were to consume fiber supplements at the same time? For example, if i want to have a banana and a glass of OJ for breakfast, and consume fiberous oatmeal and a fiber supplement at the same, would it then be OK because the glucose levels wouldn't spike as much?

From the book I am reading that is my understanding, but I would still say it is best to stay away from the white bread.

I agree, but from a health-oriented perspective, I'm wondering if this is a healthy balance. I mean, does taking fiber with my juice make juice OK? I'm trying to braoden my knowledge. Anyone know for sure?

I think what they are saying is that if you are going to have something that is going to cause your blood sugar to rise then try and couple it with something high in fiber to minimize the effects of the sugar. just as with all things, moderation is the key!!

I think the juice would still cause a blood sugar rise because it isn't bound to the finer. Your body doesn't have to 'seperate' it, or break it down, so you would still rapidly absorb the sugars, while your fiber would stay in your system longer. Would the digestion of the fiber cause a lessening of the sugar rush/crash effect? Hmm.
This is a good question, but I am not sure who, as far as a professional, you would go to for a definitive answer.
