Hey; If your starting the 12 wk ab program and dont have the stand for doing the hanging ab curls. I have a set of arm slings that I ordered from a boxing magazine. You just clip them to a chin up bar and hang from your under arms-very comfortable, no strain. Think I paid about $40. Cant remember what they call them, I have had mine for about 10yrs. Im sure there still out on the market.

That's fine, what you're describing is actually a little harder than using the vertical bench, but it's a comparable exercise.

You will be fine. The vertical bench is to target the lower abs, so as long as you are doing an exercise to target the same area, you will be fine.
