I know they're used in just about every exercise but I'm having some trouble finding something that targets them specifically but has the necessary intensity. I closest I've found to this is hanging leg raises, but I can still pull off alot of those...

You can adjust intensity pretty easily with standing ab crunches on a pulldown station, front planks, and decline crunches. Just use weight.

I did think of the weighted decline sit ups, but I was having some trouble finding a decline or adjustable bench. I'll see if I can find some boxes to stack under it.

Oh the planks... been torturing me...
Also, the russian ballet leg thrust is pretty nice. Lie on a bench, grasping it above your head with both arms, and let about half your butt be "hanging" off. Bring your knees to your chest and thrust your legs forward, catch them at the bottom, and bring them back up while keeping them straight.

Pavel's "Bullet Proof Abs" gives some decent alternative exercises if you can get your hands on it.

Which is why the ballet leg thrust made me think of the rest of the book...
