Lisa, first congrats on the red dot!At the top of your leg raise, squeeze and contract your obliques. Don't concentrate on lifting your leg as high as possible or doing the exercise quickly. -------------- **_Robert_** |

I just started my second day doing the "lying side leg raises" and I definetly feel it know. I still also feel it in my hips but I look at this in a good way (knock out two birds with one stone). I am sore today (first since doing the ab workout). I just started my 6th week. It definetly gets a lot tougher as you go.-------------- Lisa |

There's some pretty good moves listed on FT under targeting specific muscles. For me, I only work abs 2 times a week (when I work them at all) and found that if I treat the entire torso as a muscle group I get better results. I guess I didn't make that clear - I work the entire ab area including obliques but also work the lower back in the same routine. Keeps the intensity up and keeps you from developing weak areas. |

Randy, You can not spot reduce any area. To get rid of your gut, you will have to reduce your caloric intake, get cardio exercise, and weight train. When you body fat percentage gets low enough, then you'll be able to see you abs, but they tend to be the last muscle to pop out. Women usually have to be under 15% body fat to see them, and I don't know what the % is for men.Another ab exercise to try, that isn't in the workout, is working on your transverse muscle. (I'm sure it has a fancier name.) To start this, lie on your stomach, and point your toes down to the floor. Lift up on your elbows so that your body is suspended on your elbows and toes. Hold until failure. Repeat 4x. You will feel this in your lower back and sides. -------------- "Do not try. Do. Or do not. There is no try" --Yoda |

Assuming that you're at the appropriate body fat percentage for the appearance of abs, any intense ab exercise should do. Abs are muscles and to build muscles, you need intensity. Period.

Yes, but doing excessive sit ups will not help. Abs need to be trained with resistance, just like any other muscle. Intensity in weightlifting is generally a measure of the % of 1rm, not how hard you are working.-------------- Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. No easy way to get abs. You can work 'em all day and all night but if your diet isn't right your never gonna see 'em. comes down to BF%. Just my 2 cents worth. -------------- Seize the day! |
