i am in the process of trying to lose weight. right now i weigh 210 and 5 ft 6 in tall, i have a wide build. according to doctor my target weight should be no lower than 145-150.
i have been tracking my calories since i started the program 3 weeks ago. according to my records my calories have been going from 1300-2900 (the 2900 was 1 day and it was a special occasion). i have been trying to keep it between 1500-2200. my question is first of all is this too large of a span (1500-2200) to target? and second how many calories would be considered too low for me?

5 lbs in 3 weeks is not bad. I would keep the calories at the low end of your scale - 1500 - 2000 per day and see how you feel. Good Luck

You have found what it takes to stay where you are now. To lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. Weather that be by cutting calories or by doing more cardio. Your goal should to be to lose no more than one pound per week. Any more than that and you are losing to much muscle along with the fat. Eat abou 1300- 1800 for two days and then jump up to about 2500 for a day then go back down to your 1300. Do that for a week adn it should kick your metabolism up to help you burn fat. Adjust it from there to get to your pound a week goal.

You may be interested in searching the web for calorie burning charts. Many charts will tell you how many calories you burn doing excercise as well as regular daily activities (sleeping, walking, sitting). From these charts, you can determine approximately how many calories you burn in a day. I found this site helpful: http://k2.kirtland.cc.mi.us/~balbachl/calorie.htm If you determine how many calories you burn in a day, you can compare it to your daily calorie intake and decide whether you need to consume less calories or excercise more. I just found another interesting piece of information regarding your question: To lose a pound, an individual must expend 3,500 calories. You can use this guidline to help you attain your weight loss goal each week.
