I keep hearing that in order to get a six pack you have to use weights. Well what exactly do you do?

Hold a plate on your stomach during crunches.
Hold a dumbell between your feet during leglifts.
Try doing cable crunches if you have the cable machine.

Very very carefully.

Just clamp your feet together tightly. Works for leg raises and leg tucks.

Try holding the plate cross-armed (so it doesn't knock your head off on the down swing) like I'm doing in one of my pics. I do about 20 with 45 lbs or 40 with 35 lbs.

The heavy weight may be too heavy (ask the veterans of bodybuilding, I just don't know) but it forces you to take it slow, and it is resistance, so it makes sense to me.

you don't need weights. i got my six pack back when in 5th grade without weights, i just had my body weight. i did leg raises, crunches, and side twists. i would do 2 or 3 sets till of as many reps as possible till i had to have someone stand me back up. it took a few months before it showed. i still only use body weight and my stomach is envied by very respected wrestlers and competitive bodybuilders of my town and school.

try to change your diet to reduce the fat on your stomach. reverse crunches and side twists or side bends. use this website to take a look at exercises of specific body parts:

logger, you da man . Things change with age. At 16 I was on a state record 440 relay team. At 50 I'm not anymore. Later on you will have to work harder for that 6 pack little bro.

Keep training.

you're right; I think what we need to differ between is a "six pack" and "muscle growth." As you know, levels of resistance that constantly increase are necessary for muscle growth. There are differences between six-packs, 8-packs, and awesome abs. Resistance can make that difference.

what is the difference between crunches and doing actual sit ups? I always hear from people to do crunches. Which one works better?
2004/02/29, 09:36 PM
Sit ups are hard on your back. Crunches aren't.

6 pack is one thing, how about 8pack, or is that genetics?

Screw the 8 pack...I'm going for one of those 28 packs right now..haha

Another thing that was not mentioned, that I feel really hits the abs, and allows you to add resistance is cable crunches. Try these, you will be surprised at the weight you can throw at your abs too!!
