Can any of you women that have had children give me any advise regarding the excess skin in the lower ab area. I haveing been working my abs and they are getting harder. However, my stomach looks like it is pooching out more. Is this normal? Before working out, I could hold my stomach in and it would look flat. Now, I hold it in and I have a pooch. What gives here?

I can't relate to your problem I guess... but what I would do is train the lower abs doing either leg tucks or hanging leg raises or any other exercise...and don't foget cardio and the diet

I haven't had any children but my mom has. Ha! First of all, are you within your weight range? If you are, and have a pretty good fat percentage then I suggest boosting your cardio anyway. Get really lean and then focus on abs. I find many people work their abs hard when they have a pretty hefty layer of fat there. Yes it's important to train abs but don't overdo it. Your abs are probably very strong under the layer of fat. Your stomach shouldn't appear bigger unless you have really developed the abs underneath to the point where you have gained muscle mass. If you don't want that work on getting rid of the extra layer of fat. Do easier ab excercises and higher reps instead of the really challenging excercises. PS. I have a little layer of fat on the lower abdominal area and my weight has fluctuated 6-8 lbs in the last year. When I weigh less, my abs look good and visa versa. Good luck. PS. I carry fat around my knees...everyone is different and sometimes it doesn't matter how lean you are...you may not have EXACTLY what you want. Work with what you got and remember nobody is perfect.
