I have been concentrating on eating healthy and getting the protein, carbs and fats that fits my needs and help me achieve the look im going for. I am now trying to cut down a little and get my 6 pack looking a little better and toning rest of my body all around. As a result i have increased cardio and reps in workouts. As for the diet i have been taking in about the same amount of protein as the bulking stage and been cutting on carbs and fats. I hear if you try to not take in ANY carbs after 7pm you will achieve results ALOT quicker. This true?? If so what kind of foods can i eat before bed?? i find it hard not to open the fridge once between 7-12, so something must go down the hatch! any advice?

depends when you go to bed.. just try to follow no carb intake 1-2 hours before you sleep. if anything, take in protein or something as a substitute. cottage cheese is a great late night snack.. loaded with casein protein which will protect your muscles overnight. you do not want to go to bed hungry, this is going to be very counterproductive to your goals..

Egg whites...in an omelet or something. I usually have a whey protein shake before bed with skim milk...but if I got the time I'll crack me a few eggs and remove the yolk and poor them into a hot pan...doesn't take long to make and it's almost pure protein.

the whey mixed with milk is kind of counterproductive sstump.. you dont really need the quick fix of fast acting protein given by whey before bed, and the casein protein from the milk will block absorption of it anyways..

Really?? I believe I read it here that a protein shake with milk before bed would slow down absorption, but not block it. So you'd still get the prtein just slower over the 8 hours of rest. Which is why I incorporated this into my diet.

Casin in the milk is a protein, however a very slow digesting one.(one of the slowest I think) EVeryone knows after work outs you need protin and amino acids as quick as possible right? Well mixing with milk slows down the digesting of your whey, which whey is a fast digesting protein, you buy it cause its clean and get to your muscls asap! With the milk, it makes the digestion slow down........so instead of the protein,amnios and water getting to you in 30mins, since it is in water......with mailk it may take 2hours or more to be comptley digested and absorbed to your body. I myself used to use milk, however when i started to frink it with water afterward I got alot stronger and gained abotu a god solid 3 or 4 lbs. MIlk is not bad it comes in handy as well drink a protein shake before bed time with milk, the milk will make it slow down the digestion and you have your needed aminos for all night long. Thats preyy much all the "night time" protin shakes are.....whey with casin and fiber to help slow down digesting and keep you anibolic all night. ***** He doesn't really condone it but explains it here. I wonder why all of the Whey products I've seen so far recommend mixing with milk... :(
Maybe becuase no one would ever stick with the powder suppliments if they tried them with water! :big_smile: I did try taking mine with water but it makes me gag! NOT nice :angry: So I'm mixing with skim milk (which is basically minimallyflavoured water anyhow!) I wonder if it would be better with hot water? Like a mug of hot chocolate? (Sorry - it's Friday and I'm in a weird mood today!) :laugh::laugh::laugh: |

you can also mix it wiht a carb shake: no milk so fast absorption.
for the original post, dont lower your fat, only keeo the good. thats to say nuts(specially almond and walnuts) and EFA(essential fatty acids). fat helps you burn fat. |

if you guys want a good whey protein that mixes great with water try PVL whey gourmet...NO LIES... tastes great!! try it!

How is the price on the PVL whey gourmet? What flavors do they come in.
sstump1, I'm just as confused as you are. I thought that the whey protein with milk is a good thing at night because it slows down the absorption of the protein as well. DX |

Yes, casein is a slow absorbing protein, actually gels in the gut...insuring a slow release of amino acids into the bloodstream. Cottage cheese would be ideal....milk would follow.

But will you still get the benefits of the protein from the whey protein if you mix it? Obviously you won't get the benefit of the fast absorbtion, but will it still count as a part of your daily protein needs or will it just block it out completely?

I drink my protein shake with water. I guess Im used to the taste and adjusting of flavors...doesnt bother me. Hey I get it down and move on to lunch :)

There are good suggestions here, cottage cheese for example it's excellent, I don't know about milk, it makes me bloated...but still protein powder with water is personally my best bet.

i was just reading up, but i have a question regarding protein shakes. someone made comments about drinking it with water....i have been mixing mine with kool-aid, its mostly water....does that work ok?:(
