I am down to the weight I want and am only trying to lose that last bit of fat around the mid-section. I lift 6 days a week with 5 x 20 minutes cardio. I also go on about a twenty five minute run three times a week. My question is how important is ab training in tightening those abs? Should I solely rely on diet and excercise? If ab work helps too, how much and how often? Thanks!

ab training is very important.. not just to get a defined six pack, but in practically all activity imaginable. a strong central core will help you with your other resistance activites, as well as your cardio training. training your transverse abdominus, for example, will help keep your stomach from bulging out.

diet will be the key to ridding the last bit of midsection fat. personally, i train abs 3 times a week.. i know of people who train everyday but that is ridiculous to me. abdominals are another muscle group that requires time to recover and grow, and training everyday is not allowing this. you have to find what works for you, as alot of people have different ab regimens.. good luck and congrats on the progress! :big_smile:

I train abs directly about 3 or 4 months of the year, I never stick to it for long then get back into it. I do how ever use the swiss ball for pressing and some balance stuff regulary. Squats, rows, military presses(standing) should work your abs pretty hard. Isolation Ab exercises are over ratted.

deadon...that's an impressive picture of you on the balls. That same picture of me would be me on the floor face down with a ball between my legs as the two in the front slowly roll away to reveal my bloody nose.

Cheers. There is a 3rd ball under my feet, but it got cut off. I need a better pic.

20 reps of each of the following progressions leading up to 4 swiss balls(which I have only ever done 1 rep):

You start off with one ball against a wall,
1 ball without the wall;
2 balls against a wall and pushed together;
off the wall pushed together;
off the wall apart;
off the wall apart knees on bench;
feet on bench
3 balls knees on ball hands on 2 pushed together
3 balls knees on ball hands on 2 balls apart
shins on ball
toes on ball

Just thought I post that.

thanks doa for the breakdown. I might try that when hardly anyone is in the gym one night. that way when I hit the floor I can laugh at myself, and try it again.
