not really, you have to pay attention to pain. I know that nerve damage can take a really long time to heal. I had nerve damage in a thumb a few years ago. It tingled 24/7 and if it didn't do that it was numb. My doctor told me to avoid the thing that injured it which was running an aggressive tiller. She said not to put it in a stress position and avoid anything that aggrivated it. You may want to get your doctor to provide some guidelines.
On a similar issue, while recovering from rotator cuff surgery I found I could squat, lungebend over, do crunches, leg lifts etc while in a sling. I walked a great deal too.
But, I'd discuss this with your doctor.
