Hello everyone i am finally back from vacation , and ready to get back on track! I was on Jenny Craig but cannot afford it anymore. I tend to follow something structured better than going on my own. I dont really know much about the Atkins diet and was thinking about it. I've just started a 13 week walk/run program and will only have 2 day a week to do weights. I know i need carbs for the running, but im not sure what to do. If anyone has other reccomendations of plans to follow please send them my way. Right now i am striving to eat 5-6 times a day. I have a high fibre breakfast cereal, with fruit and yogurt. morning snack is usually a fruit. Lunch usually a baked chicken breast with either salad ,or lettuce in a pita with a little taziki sauce(low fat), afternoon snack veggies or 4 triscuts with light cheddar cheese, supper usually whole wheat pasta grilled meat and veggies, and for evening snack usually fruit or a low cal fruit "popsicle". As of following this plan from last week i gained 0.6 lbs. Before that i was fluctuating between 191 and 194 now im up even more and very frustated. I thank you all in advance.

The way it was calculated for me was to eat a mininmum of 1g of protein per pound of body weight. Your weight is about like mine and my goal weight is 175 so I try to get between 175 and 200g of protein a day. I too have gained a few pounds since starting to workout with heavier weights and more intensity, but it is all muscle and hopefully I am losing some fat in the process. I only weigh once a month and at that time I take all my measurements and write them down so that I can compare month to month to see if there are changes. I'm still trying to understand this carb thing myself as far as when and how much to eat so I'm not much help to you there. I do know that you should eat your fruit and sugary carbs early in the day and not at night. That is the hardest part for me as I always want 'sweets' in the evening. It seems that a high protein snack is the best thing for evenings. Hope that helps a little.

I do have protien shakes but stopped taking them when i went on holidays. I start back on the weights next week so ill probably add it then.

Have you used the calculator on this site to figure out what your caloric needs are? It will also tell you how to break it down. It seems to give people too many carbs though, but if you get that as a base we can work from there. You should probably be around 2000 calories and 200 g of protein. Is this close to what you are doing now?

I havent really checked out the calculator on here i find it a little confusing. Im not too sure how many calories im taking in i just try to eat healthy (although im sure my eating habits could use some tweaking). im pretty sure i am not getting enough protien though and was going to add protien shakes once a day next week when i get back into the gym.
