I'm on a real low-budget bulking diet, so I have to make due with lots of oatmeal, tuna, pancakes and bulk-packaged chicken breasts. Last week I was eating oatmeal with almost every meal and it started to catch up with me in the form of really, really bad gas buildup.

I did some searches on it and found that the oatmeal made it tough on my stomach to digest all the oatmeal (1 1/2-2 cups) and the protein (22+ grams) in each meal.

So i didn't eat any oatmeal for two days and had almost no gas at all. That's an improvement, but I NEVER had gas before i started bulking. So i'm still figuring this out.

I got quick oats this week opposed to the regular quaker oats i was eating last week. I tryed eating them just at night (if i'm gonna have to deal with gas, might as be when i'm asleep) and I didn't have the same gassy feeling I had before.

So I tried oatmeal just for breakfast and had little gas that day as well. I guess I was just really over-doing the oatmeal in my diet and I now, since i got paid, am eating a little more of a diverse diet.

My advice from this experience would be to eat quick oats if oatmeal doesn't settle well in your stomach. Any insight on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Quick oats has a higher glycemic index, thus a faster digestion time, thus a bit more susceptible to insulin response. (the real difference is they are cut thinner).Other than that, no difference.

Thanks bb1fit. You've opened another big door with a question mark. Since I'm trying to keep my insulin sensitivity as high as possible for PWO spikes, should I be eating mostly low GI foods throughout the day?

Most definitely. The easiest way to sabatoge a fat loss diet is with rising and falling blood sugars. Keep them steady.

Ah, well that would explain my recent affinity for afternoon cat naps.
