Hi guys Is there an age limit as to who can join FT? I have a young child that I think would benefit from the nutrition part of this program. Thanks in advance Tia

The one I'm concerned about is Dylan. He just turned 6 end of November so he won't be doing any posting lol. Dyl's a big ole lovin boy. By big I mean 4 ft 3 and 90 lbs. Several possible reasons for his large size, #1 His dad is 6ft 3 250lbs (I'm only 5ft)( at 5 weeks preemie he was still 6lb 12 oz at birth) #2 medication Dylan is autistic and i was told his medication could cause the weight gain. #3 He's an olympic eater. He has difficulty with non texture foods so he eats alot of crunchy stuff and although it's not good for him its very hard to see him get upset and act out when he's not give them. So I cave. However, we're giving things now in moderation. His last dr, appt. they said the O word. Your child is OBESE. Ouch. These kind of kids have it tough enough as it is, I don't want him ridiculed in junior high or sooner. I mean my fear is having a 300lb 10 yr old who's having a real bad day. Sorry about the rambling, at this stage he couldn't comprehend actual exercising but if i could get some help with his nutrition it's a start. Thanks tia

I think Dylan could do pretty good at this site. You would most likely have to help him navigate around the site, but other than that, I think that if he is motivated to lose weight, he would be doing it at an early age, so he could probably get more accomplished.

I was 280 at age 12 and I wasnt a monster to my parents. Kids learn there diet from parents. He is still growing and needs to eat a varied diet for proper growth. You might actually want to talk to a nutrtionist about his situation. Good Luck- Mike

i tried to sign Dylan up here but they only take 13 and over . Oh well.

u can make a list of workouts he can do if u cant sign him up on here or just setup a account as a 13 year old too whatever

tialyn, tonight we will be adding two new message forums, one of them being a support forum for obesity of all aged people. You can discuss any issues and progress regarding your son in there, and you will get valuable input from our members.

You may create an account for your son, using a fictitious age, but only using it for the calorie tracker. The actual calory intake and macronutrient/micronutrient breakdowns, you should get from a professional dietician. FT will help you keep track of his food intake in order for you to try and match the goals given by the doctor.

Adrian, thank you! That's exactly what I wanted, to keep track of what he's eating. I think between that and plus once the weather breaks and he can get up and run around in his yard, or swim in his pool he'll start to lose some weight. We're already cutting back on his portions Thanks again Tia

I beleive dylan and yourself can get alot out of this site together. Perhaps looking over the diet issues, and also activity level if their is help needed. Good Luck to you and

Hi tialyn,

in order to combine tracking of food intake and tips, feedback, guidance and suggestions, I use this site and http://www.fitday.com - they have a huge food database, graphical split downs and a lot of customization options.

PS: I think the new sections here at freetrainers regarding nutrition issues are very helpful tools in order to gain additionally support and info.
