If you take out the oil on the top of the Peanut Butter, does it take out some of the fat and calorie content of the peanut butter? Will it taste weird if you take out all the oil on the top? Should you do this anyways? What would be the best thing to do? Does it taste the same as peter pans peanut butter that has hydronated oils and stuff? Thanks for the posts.

Natural Peanut butter doesn't taste the same as regular peanut butter, it tastes better (IMO).
Don't pour out the oil from the peanut butter otherwise it will dry out and you'll ruin it. Stir that stuff right in! Those oils contain lots of healthy EFA's. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Its just about doing it, and doing it right. - If your hungry all the time, your not eating enough. And anyways, being hungry sucks. ~Brad~ |

Man! That's a little too late, I guess I should have checked if there were any posts on this topic before I did so. Does it dry out really bad? Will it still be good to eat?

Keep the oil, this is why we buy this peanut butter. Simply mix it up a bit, and store the jar upside down.(make sure lid is tight of course)

alright I'll do the storing upside down thing, but it's a little too late to remix the oil in it again because that's already in the trash can :surprised: Well at least I'll know next time what to do. And I'll take this as my lesson for today. Always check for posts on your question before you take action.

You normally have to fine Almond butter at health food stores. Some Super Wal Marts may have it, but health food stores always do.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

you can buy it in bulk at whole foods, if you have that. they're based in austin and didn't you say you're from s.a.? central market also has it - there is definitely one of those in s.a. i also saw it today in the natural section at kroger, which i also think you have. if you can't find it in the natural section at the grocery store, do like ron says and go to the health food store. they'll surely have it there. -------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

Yes I am from S. A., but I don't get out much. I mean I'm only 15. So I'm not really sure if there are any of them stores around here. Do you know of any good health stores around here? Would GNC be considered a health store? There is a super Wal-Mart around here, so I'll check it out there. Thanks

cashew butter is also quite tasty. go to www.wholefoods.com and get a map to the s.a. store. they have an entire nut butter section where you can scoop your own. see if you can get someone to drive you -- it's worth it.-------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

Oh I see. I thought you lived in Austin. How much peanut butter do you all eat a week? I go through about a jar a week. Is this too much? Should I cut back on it? I think I should find another good source of fat and calories because I just can't stop eating the stuff. It's so good!

For many this may be, but again, if it fits in your calorie needs/scheme, especially if you are bulking, then eat up!

I found Soynut butter. It's all natural and I guess it's naturally low in carbs because there's a big sign on the front of the jar that says "low carbs". Well anyways, it's pretty low in fat 12 grams, and higher in protein then PB. 10 grams. The taste isn't as great as peanut butter but that's a good thing for me since once I start eating peanut butter I just can't stop! I can stop eating this soynut butter though. Just thought I'd inform you all on the soynut butter.

I used to love peanut butter of any kind. For the last few years I have been eating natural PB only. I tried my old fav (Jiff) the other day. Holy smokes it tasted like plastic. For those of you that have never tried natural PB, you REALLY should. Yeah you have to stir it, but it is much better for you. I just can't see how I settled for anything less than natural before. I must have been plain nutty!:laugh: I'm here all week folks.

Ugh.. well, I posted the above message in two different threads.. I thought I had lost it. Anyway, do a FT search on the word "peanut" and you will find MANY threads on this subject. I don't think one of them mentions to pick regular (Jiff/Skippy/Peter Pan etc) PB over natural. Try to find a natural with nothing else added. Some have extra salt or sugar. Check the label.

First of all...Hi all! This is my first post here at this forumn. I don't really use FT as a fitness program but I find these boards to be a valuable source of info, especially b/c of the search option!
I absolutely love ANPB. PB in any form is unbelievably good, but all natural is the best. Thank you DX for inspring me to go out and buy some SoyNut Butter. It indeed has a better nutritional profile, and with the amount I eat of it...I'll take any improvement I can get!! :-) The stuff isn't bad...well, it will take some getting used to. But it seems to be getting better each time I've tried it (first taste was a little weird, than the second time it was almost like ANPB). If you enjoy ANPB, than definetely try this stuff. The texture is just like ANPB... DX, I'm glad you could stop eating this stuff. I had more than a bit too much of it! Probobly bc it reminds me so much of ANPB. Oh well. My bail-out is my opinion that anytime you try a new healthy food, you're allowed to have as much of it as you want! ============ Quoting from DX14AG: I found Soynut butter. No....soy has been linked to estrogen too many times. I would just use natural peanut butter if you must have peanut butter(it is good )

Vegetarians for instance are notorious eaters of soy. Check out this study....
Influence of diet on plasma steroids and sex hormone-binding globulin levels in adult men. J Steroid Biochem 1989 Jun;32(6):829-33 Several experimental studies have suggested that diet can alter the production and metabolism of steroids in men. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of unconjugated steroids and steroid glucuronides as well as sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) among normal adult men who were either omnivorous or vegetarians. The participants were white volunteers ranging from 25-35 years of age and the blood samples were taken between 0900 h and 1000 h and between 1600 h and 1700 h for two consecutive days. No significant statistical change was found in plasma dehydroepiandrosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone and estradiol levels. Vegetarian group showed a higher levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) while the free androgen index (FAI; calculated by the ratio testosterone/SHBG) was lower in this group. Although the concentrations of androsterone glucuronide were higher in vegetarian group, the vegetarians had a 25-50% lower level of androstane-3 alpha, 17 beta-diol glucuronide and androstane-3 beta,17 beta-diol glucuronide. Our data further indicate that both, androstane-3 alpha,17 beta-diol glucuronide and androstane-3 beta,17 beta-diol glucuronide concentrations are significantly correlated with SHBG levels and with the FAI values. The increases in androstane-3 alpha,17 beta-diol glucuronide and androstane-3 beta,17 beta-diol glucuronide levels in the omnivorous group are probably a consequence of the elevation of the FAI. Our data suggest that in a vegetarian group, less testosterone is available for androgenic action. -------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

So testosterone conductivity is a key part to muscle-building foods? Also, SoyNut Butter contains 10 grams of protein while PB has 8. Are you saying that the quality of the 8 protein grams that PB has is better than the quality of the 10 grams in SoyNut Butter?-------------- Life is not a piece of cake....It is one big Rocky Road :-) |
