It's been a while since I have posted here. I have been getting more serious about my weight training and am about to start a new routine. You can see my training log from the last few months in the link in my signature.

I'm planning to start Chad Waterbury's Strength Focused Mesocycle tomorrow.
You can see the full routine here: http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=485341

Overall, the routine looks great, but I have never done a power clean. From what I have read, it is not a lift that can easily be learned just from reading. I do not have anyone at my gym that can teach me the movement, so I am looking for something to use in it's place.

I was thinking of using the high pull, or for a less explosive variation, just using a regular deadlift.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

High pull might be a good idea.

What about speed deadlifts? I would not do ME deadlifts in its place weekly as you can easily overtrain...but using speed deadlifts or another deadlift variation may be a fairly good substitute. You can the ME deadlift once ever 3-4 weeks to track your progress on the lift.

Also you can search for olympic lifting gyms in the area....perhaps colleges that have olympic lifting...and go down there or call them up and ask them if you can come down for a couple sessions....generally they are very willing to help you out...you may need to pay a fee to get in but otherwise it may be well worth it...
