This morning our washing machine broke. It agitates, and then just stops when it gets to where it should drain/switch to the rinse cycle. I left a message and submitted an online maintinence request with our landlord at 8:30 this morning. She just now (11:45) sent me an e-mail back saying she left a message with the maintinence guy giving him my contact info, and he should be CALLING ME either today or tomorrow.
Am I being unreasonable for thinking that it should be getting fixed today or tomorrow, and not having to wait 2 days just for the guy to call me?? This is seriously making me want to move. When we moved in, the toilet needed a new floater, and it took 2 weeks for the guy to get it done. I can't go 2 weeks without a washing machine. |

Depends on the model, but most of the time you can get them from a parts outlet(save you alot of money....service call by the hour, usually around 90 bucks). These places will carry stuff for appliances. It is only about maybe 4"x4" overall. Simply loosen and remove the screws on the sides of the upright control panel. (make sure you unplug it first). You will see the unit, hard to miss. Small motor driven. Remove the wires and mark them, take out the screws holding it(forget, about 3-4). Remove unit, mount new one. Reconnect wiring and voila'. The wiring will be female type connectors slid onto males, so they just pull off.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

Most parts stores I speak of will do a cross reference for you and find the exact part you need.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

I'm copy and pasting this onto word right now. My only concern is that should we try to fix it ourselves, and it doesn't work, that my landlord would then charge us to fix it since we tampered with it, instead of fixing it for free.

You will have to make the call then.....by the way, if you call one of the outlets I alluded to, tell them the model number of your washer, they will look up the part for you.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

mmmmmmmmm.....I don't know....you seem a little spun up over a washing machine....it's not an emergency...I'm just saying maybe here...your emotions are running a little high today????How does your husnabd feel...maybe there are other factors....do you have alot of problems with your land lord????Right now your mad that it took a couple of hours to call you back...now your mad that the repair guy will call you within 24 hours...and getting madder because it MIGHT take 2 weeks...something your not sure of.What does your lease say about things like this...is there a designated time for appliances to be fixed??If so...make sure it is done by the specified time..if not discuss having a percentage taken off your rent...calmly let them know that you are 6 months pregnant and hauling laundry to the laudry matt would be difficult for you, could they please get on it asap....but I do think you are over reacting a bit...at the moment...at the latest you are getting a call back from the person who is going to do your repair within 48 hours of your original call,I don't think thats to bad...but your the pregnant one...so I'm not gonna argue with you:)

It is by the way right behind where you turn the knob to wash, rinse, etc. There will be one small screw in the knob maybe you will have to remove also. Some do not, some will simply slide off. Turn the knob and see if there is a little hole in it somewhere. If so, there is a lockdown screw in there you will have to take out(just loosen) and slide off the knob.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

KC, the only reason why it's such a big deal is that I normally do 1-2 loads of laundry a day. If he was going to say, call today, and get it fixed tomorrow or the next day, no problem. But what happened with the toilet floater, was the landloard said she called the maintinence guy, and he would call us. 5 days later, no call. I call her again, she says the same thing, and we wait another 4 days. The guy finally calls, and it takes him another 3 days to come out. If thats gonna be the norm with them, it's not the best for matininence to say the least. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. :surprised:

Because my husband should be a football player. His clothes are huge. We just measured him last week...the measure needed another 2-3 inches to get around his shoulders. His jeans are huge, his socks are huge, his undies are huge, his shirts are huge. There is no end to the laundry monster. Then add the fact that I actually wear clothes and wash them too...well, no wonder the washer broke!!

Kind of bizzare, but my spin cycle died this weekend as well. thankfully it was when I was on my last load and it was just a small load. I've had this happen in the past and in our case its the spinner portion which simply wears out and can't spin anymore. So I can hear the motor running, but no spin. It's a kenmore, so last time (about 4 years ago) I called Sears. But they take forever to come out and they're pricey, so this time I'll try a private repair guy. Thanks for bringing this up, because I forgot about it and I will now call somebody.
Sorry I'm not much help, but i though it weird that ours died this weekend as well....gremlins I think:) |

Sooo, no one called yesterday. The wait is on to see if he calls today. If not, Tyler gets to call and leave them a message tomorrow morning.
