I need a little input from the experts...I have been working out for about 4 months since a short 3 month layoff. Consistently going 3 days with thought of a fourth. Problem is I spin (cycling) on 2 days and play indoor soccer (rigorous) on two other days. Do you think all that running is keeping me from seeing results in size and definition that I want? What can I do to make sure things progress as they should??

YOu do not state if you are doing any resistance training.

Sorry, I do three days a week of resistance training on top of two days of spinning and two nights of soccer. Usually I overlap (both resistance and soccer/spinning) on 3 of those days.

The next thing would be to see if your diet is calorie dense enough to recover properly from all that. If not, you may have to increase caloric intake. You may need to split up some of those days. It sounds like you do full body workouts on your 3 days of resistance training. You most probably are quite overtrained. You should probably split those workouts up, at least a 4 day split, so you can concentrate more on each muscle group. Usually intensity is good for about an hour or so, and it gets hard to sustain after that for most people. Splitting up your workout will cut down on your gym time, and give you more growth time. You do not grow in the gym. Also, are you usually tired, irritable, etc.? If so, this is a sure sign of overtraining.

I shoudl have explained it better, sorry. The three days of resistance are split up...chest/shoulder/tri and legs/back/bi. I just alternate the workouts. I want to split them up to concentrate more on specific areas on individual days so it sounds like I am on the right track. No usually irratable either, in fact I really feel great until about 10pm. I will definately look into the diet thing though, I how done some digging on this page and found out I need to eat a lotmore than I currently do. Any suggestions on protien intake? Other than using supplements it seems hard to get the levels I need (about 260g).

I think you will find it difficult if not impossible to gnaw your way through that much protein. I would think protein/MRP supps would be a must for you. You can get 40-50 gr. per crack with them. 2 of those and you should be able to eat the rest. An 8 oz. chicken breast is right at 40 gr., and a 8 oz. piece of lean beef is around 64gr. Good luck.
