I am new to this site. My friend recommended it to me as we have similar weight loss goals.

My biggest concern is my legs. My legs have no shape (other than large). In fact, my legs are built like tree trunks. My ankles are also quite thick. Besides cutting them off, I would like to know what I could do to slim them and give them more shape.

Hello there!
If you want to shape your legs you have to work out and follow a diet..... simply as that.
The good thing about this is that you'll get use to your new life style (and body!!) and you'll never ever wanting to stop again.

It also sounds like you have a problem with water retention. Make sure of drinking enough water.

Luck to you.

Welcome to ft! Please fill out your profile, and share your goals and current training regimen (if any). That way, we can give better advice in the future.

As far as your legs, you'll need to adopt a good diet and exercise program that will target your legs. FT has many exercises that can target this area. If you haven't already, you should sign up for an ft program.

Good luck!

Thank you for your quick reply.

I am in the Marine Corps so I run at least 3 times a week. I have started weight training, I do cardio workouts. I weigh about 130-135, I would like to lose about 10-15lbs. I have a petite frame and a small waist--almost all of my weight is in my legs. (I wear sm/med tops and lg bottoms).

How is your diet? Watch the simple carbohydrates.
Women tend to lose weight in their lower bodied last so if you start dieting it will eventually reduce as you lose weight. I think if you continue your running weight train your legs and upper body regularly you will see a difference after sometime. Be patient. Weight training you body is eztrememly important as women tend to be thin in the upper body and then our lower bodies appear even bigger!!!

A good advice for you is to start training your shoulders and arms!!!!
Since you have a big difference between your upper and lower body you can "cheat", make your upper body look stronger with weight training (I'm NOT talking about becoming all bulky!)
Getting muscles in the upper body takes a lot of time so be patient and DON'T be afraid of lifting heavy.

Vnsa take a look at tennis players...they have VERY nice legs. (IMO) Volleyball players have nice ones too....and i'm sure other sports do as well...

all i'm saying is they got them being active: running, jumping, squatting, spining. Basicly moving, moving, moving.
