Although my TSH levels are good, I am on Synthroid, my endo agreed that with my hypothyroid and age coupled with post menoupause I am at a standstill for losing weight. Is there any good product or herb that helps boost metabolism? And that is compatible with Synthroid? I read alot about checking and boosting T3 and that the docs are too concerned only about TSH. My endo agreed to check my T3 in my next blood test. Anyone know anything out there about this?

I get the same TSH crap from my docs. I had a partial thyroidectomy in the mid 80's. Like you as I get older it gets harder and harder NOT to gain weight, no matter what. I take a .75 of synthetic thyroid and have for years. They test my TSH and T3 every 6 months and always tell me the same thing, that it is well within normal ranges. Like everything else though I feel that each of us should be treated individually and what is normal for me might not be normal for you, etc. I haven't heard of kind of boosters or herbs, but if there are any I'm sure this is the place to hear about it. Sorry I'm not much help, but I understand your frustration.

Thanks for answering. I felt kind of left out. Perhaps not too many people on this board suffers thyroid. When I first went on Synthroid 11 years ago, the weight dropped off. Gradually over the years it crept back up. They kept upping my dose. After my hysterectomy I balloned to 145 lbs. I am five two and very small boned. That is a lot of weight for me. My doc was not paying much attention to my cries of I am eating low calories and exercise regular tried every cure for plateaus known to man and nothing is working. Finally at my last checkup he agreed that if what I am saying is the truth, it probalby is my thyroid and I have to learn to live with it. I talked him into testing my T3 as well. I hear there is a med to support it. I lost 25 lbs and went down to 121 and looked and felt good. Now I am back up to 130 and it is not budging for a year and half now. I also feel sluggish. I do not believe I am at a set point or why was I at 121 for two years. I hear there are supplements to boost T3 but my experience with natural and supplement products has always been negative-they never worked . But still I hope... I have nice muscle hiding under this thin layer of fat sigh...... Don't get me wrong I am not fat by any means but because I got to 121 before, I got a bee in my bonnet now. I really looked and felt good there.

I hear ya. When it comes to aging, I think women get the short end of the stick. I too had to convince my doctor that I was doing everything right. That was even several months after starting my program at the gym. I ended up having a meltdown in his office. I truly feel that if he would up my dose it would help. Maybe not forever, but I think it would help me over the hump. I also would like to see all these new muscles I've got hiding under the fat. There are a few things out there that claim to boost your metabolism, but I've tried a couple and they didn't do anything for me. My husband says mine is non-existant. Hopefully all of this heavy lifting and exercise is speeding it up for me. That seems to be the major advice I get. Good luck and hang in there.
