I am 22 yrs old getting back to lifting.
I smoke about a pack a day and just thought that there might be someone here who kicked the habit.
Any help is appreciated.

All it takes is some will power. After 3 days the physical addiction is gone and the rest is will power.
I woke up one morning and decided that I was done with it...and havent looked back. No one can make you quit...you have to be ready and strong willed. You can do it and when you kick the habit, its an amazing feeling.

I have quit before a few times but always came back it seems.
I would be over the physical and emotional attachments and still I was back.
I've quit for 6+ months.
I need to quit, I want to quit, and I absolutely hate it.

Smoked for 19 years... didnt buy em one day and have not smoked since.

I saw a book titled "Sex for Dummies" and wondered why
anyone would teach dumb people how to reproduce?

Quit twice, once for 9 years and the last time for good. Its been 6 years now. If you are ready it will happen and forget about just having that "one" a year or two later.
And, as far as scare tacticts go, I can tell you this, I lost my closest friend at age 39, in operable lung cancer, and my 71 year old aunt who quit smoking about 4 years ago was diagnosed last week with lung cancer as was her brother. So the time to quit is now and get exercising to help your body fight back and repair itself.

I quit a bunch of times too and finally am done with them. It has been 7 years since I smoked.
I have found that you need to take yourself out of the situations where you smoke (I.E) bars etc... You need to avoid any places that you used to smoke and not hang around with people who smoke in order to fully quit in my experience.

I'm also 22 and quit just over a year go, and although i've had my stumbles along the way, i'm completely clean of them now.
One thing that may help (it did for my roommate) every now and then take a few deep controlled breaths. When we used to smoke, we became accustomed to taking deeper slower breaths while inhaling. And like ssminnow said try to keep away from old places you used to smoke (bars etc). However if you like to go out every now and then and happen to go to a bar, have a friend keep you accountable.
It gets easier every day.

All you need is will power. When I went to the Dr, and she told me that I was 82 pounds overweight, I decided to turn my life around. I am still overweight, but before she told me that, I had been rubbing snuff for quite some time. I finished off the can I had, and didnt buy another can for probably 2 weeks... after *ehem* a "workout" with my girlfriend, I needed a dip BAD, it was just the craving. So I went out and got a can. Rubbed the whole can in a days time. And never picked up a can again. The thing is, its will power. The bad thing is though, once you are addicted to nicotine, you will ALWAYS be addicted to it, you will always have the cravings. It's true what they say, tobacco is harder to quit than heroin.
