So what about triceps one day then biceps the next day? For example Monday-chest,tris, Tuesday-back,bis. Is that a good idea or should you wait a day in between before you do upper body exercises like that. I know it takes 48 hours for your muscles to recover so I'm just wondering if it is a good rule of thumb to give your upper body a day of rest in between.

I prefer antagonist muscle groups....this will keep you stronger on your lifts. If you do chest, which is a primary pushing movement, tri's very involved, it will be difficult to hit tri's with the intensity(heavier weights due to fatigue in them already, and overtrainng can easily ocurr). This is even more evident with back/bi's, as back is all pulling movements, and bi's are heavily utilized. Then turn around and do a heavy bi workout, and easily leads to overtraining, and plus you will not be able to overload them properly again due to fatigue.

Wait actually you would have to put a day in between that workout or you're hitting the same muscle groups both days. So Monday-bi's,tri's and Wednesday-chest,back. Right?

You can arrange it any way you like....for example...

Day 1...Chest/calves/abs
Day 2...Biceps/triceps
Day 3...X
Day 4...Back/shoulders
Day 5...Quads/hams/glutes
Day 6...X

I try to keep it as simple as possible, but sometimes it is not possible. I try the basics first, if that doesn't work, then I have to get a bit more technical.

I appreciate the input. I'll try that approach.
