alright i will admit this is a little odd, bordering on stupid, but i need opinions...
i don't have what you would consider 'a lot' of arm hair. it's relatively light and very thin - but i have this really strange desire to nair my forearms. so i'm wondering 2 things really: 1) how many of you shave/wax/nair your arms, and 2) do you think i should do this? i really just want to be able to see more definition in them, but i'm not really sure if ridding myself of hair will do this. it works for my legs though, so who knows. i'm going to quit yakking now and start taking opinions. -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

Personally, I think shaving/waxing your arm hair is silly. Legs I can understand, but if your hair is fine and light in color, then why deal with all the crap we do to our legs on your arms. Also, I think it looks unnatural if a person doesn't have some hair on their arms. Just my opinion :)

No I don't shave my arms but if I compete someday I will have to, and as a license cosmetologist, please don't do this unless you plan on keeping it up. You don't have more that grows back but it does grow back in a mature state, darker and heavier. I have to shave my husbands entire body for his bodybuilding contest and when we met he had very little hair now he is quite the hairy guy. SHHHHHHH don't tell him I told you that:)-------------- THE NATURAL WAY IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH TO SUCCESS, PRIDE, JOY, HAPPINESS, LONG TERM FULFILLMENT AND SELF-ESTEEM! |

I shave my arms every other day...
I started doing this last summer because i had a cut on my arm and they shaved the area when they stitched it...so i decided "screw this" and i've shaved since...and i love it. They are always so smooth and it feels great. When i started shaving i had relatively light and thin hair...even for a guy...i mean it sucked...it was blonde etc...so i figured no one would notice, and they don't. My arms do look more defined...and when i started shaving my armpits it looked even more defined. I'd suggest it because I love it...but i'm odd that way (yes i shave my legs and chest etc...even though i don't need to shave my chest because its all light fuzzy ish...its just smoother while shaving) i'd also wait to hear from julienne on this topic before deciding...the opinions posted above are good, but wait for a couple more before deciding. |

Rip it! Rip it off!
I think if you want the arm hair gone, get rid of it. I mean the worst that can happen is you don't like it and let it grow back, which if you are like me will take about 20 minutes. As far as it's being just another f***in thing you have to do to make yourself beautiful, the list will be so long by the time you are my age it won't make any difference. My weekly beauty regime used to take 20 minutes a week, now it takes an entire Sunday. I chose Sunday because I know for a fact that God is in and will hear all of my beauty associated prayers. The time we spend together seems to amuse him. -------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

If you do anything on the arms, wax. The hair will grow back afterward in it's natural state (tapered tip), the effects will last longer and give you no stubble issues.
If you try it and hate it, you can use the left over wax to sculpt a set of bar bells to use as a paper weight.:dumbbell: Julienne |

What does shaving do to hair?
Hair normally has a tapered tip. Shaving removes this tip from the hair shaft so growing hairs feel bristly. As the sharp hair tip now begins to regrow, there is a risk of ingrown hair if it penetrates the skin surrounding the follicle. Inflammation and irritation can result. about-hair-removal.com -------------- THE NATURAL WAY IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH TO SUCCESS, PRIDE, JOY, HAPPINESS, LONG TERM FULFILLMENT AND SELF-ESTEEM! |

I shaved my arms once. Worst thing I ever did, I honestly could not stop scratching them as the hair grew back. Im pretty sure waxing it would work out much better but I haven't been game enough to try.

alright, time for questions...
julienne, resident aesthetician extraordinaire, i'm excessively prone to ingrown hairs so i will definitely nix the shaving idea. does nair have the same effect as a razor? i've been doing the nair thing on my legs for a few months now and it's been working like a charm (i previously waxed because shaving hurt too bad.) if i wax it and like it, it will grow back in it's regular state, right? i mean if i'm going to have arm hair i want to have the hair i've got now, not some other hair. it's thin and blonde, what more could you want out of arm hair? this being said, i don't know why i feel the need to get rid of it, i think i just want my veins to show and my muscles to stick out. i don't do all those gripping exercises and wrist curls for nothing, afterall. anyway, feel free to keep the opinions (and answers) coming because i am crazy and need the guidance. p.s. anni, you are my hero. i would totally be in love with you if i didn't think it would freak you out. and on that note, does anyone have a cure for verbal incontenence? -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

I waxed my arms once and I entered a world of pain.
I can cope with legs and bikini line no problem but this was a different league. I don't have any definition to uncover anyway though :) |

Thank you Howdie, what a lovely thing to say! I've tried really hard to become a fun bi-sexual chick, but it's just not my thing. Oh sure, who isn't turned on by the site of a pair of... well, of course you already know that. Disappointing as this is, I'm just more the sugar daddy type. I will keep you posted though, as this is an area in which I'm determined to better myself.

Howdie, Nair dissolves the hair so if it works for your legs it will probably do fine for your arms. But, you wanna make sure that it is dissolving the hair down at the root and not just underneath the skin though (otherwise, it would really be no different than shaving)...do your legs get stubbily when they regrow?
Yes, waxing takes it completely out, therefore it grows back in it's virgin state. BUT SOME CAN GET INGROWN HAIRS AFTER WAXING TOO!!! Ingrown hairs are also associated with the sluffing of your old skin cells so make sure that you are exfoliating every time you get a chance to be neckid, ok? And hey, if you don't want the hair, take it off. I wax my arms regularly and I will probably be doing it up till the day I die. There is nothing weird about it at all. Well, unless of course you do it because you find hot wax orgasmic. |

Howdie - i shave my arms all of the time, it definitley shows more definition.
I don't generally get ingrown hairs and my hair has not gotten any darker or thicker. Nair smells bad and can burn your skin and waxing is time consuming and uncomfortable. I use a venus razor and some extra-sensitive skin shave lotion (of course it smells good, too). Just my .02 -------------- \"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. well, i took a semi-plunge and naired half of my left arm. i'm a sissy, i know. it feels good, now i'm just afraid i'm going to not look as dark as i do with hair. what can you really do about that though besides use self-tanner or spend more time in the sun? i'm sure if i spent half a day outside i'd be back to my european-looking self.
asimmer - thanks for the input. you're 100% right with the nair smelling bad thing, but it works for me so i put up with it. i can't do razors, they're not very friendly to my skin. although i can't figure out why nair is... julienne - i leave the nair on for almost 10 minutes so i'm pretty sure i'm getting down to the root. if i'm not i guess i'll find out pretty soon, eh? anni - if it's not you're thing, it's not you're thing. just take pride in knowing that you've totally got it going on. :) -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |

In my version of the perfect world I would wake up one morning and have no hair left with the exception of that which is on my head, eyebrows, and eyelashes.
I might also add that I would have no fat other than that found in my boobs, which, would always be evenly distributed and not subject to gravity. Oh, and while I'm at it, periods would no longer be necessary, giving the little black dot at the end of the sentence back it's rightful monopoly. |

well i did it - no more arm hair. i couldn't sleep last night so at 3:30 i totally naired them. they feel all nice and smooth and look great, so i think i'm going to have to stick with this. plus when it rains the water dropplets just roll right off. how cool is that?
anyway, it's done, the arm hair is no more, and i feel all new and aerodynamically improved. oh, and i got several comments today about how sexy they feel. you gotta love that right? yeeeah  -------------- success comes before work only in the dictionary. that's right. |
