This is the best book ever!!(arnold shcwarzennegar sp? encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding) It took me only 2 chapters to convince me to rethink and change my working out routine. I'm now feeling sore, really, really sore when I work out. I'm even sore as I type this. Thanks Arnold! ;')-------------- My family thinks I'm on steroids... :D |

PLEYROY, I got the same book with all the old school pictures in it. Its pretty intense, just remember though that these exercises were done by guys on ROIDS so it may be a little much on the muscles for you. Just be careful.-------------- May the lift be with you. |

Should have made myself a little more clear on my stance...I absolutely suggest the book, but for those people who are beginners, some of the exercises need to be done correctly or injury could occur. Overall, good to have it for reference.-------------- May the lift be with you. |

Work hard, eat right....if you've been working out consistantly for a while then getting that soreness will be few and far between. Just because you are not sore the next day doesn't NECESSARILY mean you didn't work hard enough. If you change up your routine every month or so, then you could experience some soreness.....wait, why the hell do you want to be sore?!-------------- May the lift be with you. |

ROIDS- The meaning depends on who you are talking to. Most of the people that I work with think they know exactly what I mean when I say Roids and they haven't laid eyes on a set of weights in years. BTW about the only place I get sore anymore is my lower back (sometimes chest but lower back quite often) especially after ab day and back day. But I have always had a weak lower back.

Jeez, I forgot to ask my question regarding the original post. Sorry. That book is fairly expensive isn't it? I saw it and wanted to buy it a few months back, but dag $$$. Rev also said some good stuff about a book about squats but I can't remember the name. That one sounded interesting. Rev if you give the name of the book, I'll write it down this time.

Thanks I will check it out. I was thinking it was like 29.99 at books a million. I may be wrong but it definately made my jaw drop when I saw the price. $14-$17 is doable.

greatest book of all time. its worth 30 bucks man if you can't find it cheaper. i would recommend being careful with it though as some guys above said... and don't do the competition workouts if you haven't been lifting that long, though mix some portions of them to shock your muscles.

heh, i'll probably be buying this book sometime soon for two dollars... there's this thrift store by my house where i always find books that i'm actually looking for... books under 200 pages are a buck and books over 200 pages are 200 dollars (hard cover or not)... heh, i'm sure i'll find this sucker sooner or later! wish me luck, since i'm so poor i can't really afford 15 bucks for a single book o_O

To really feel "the burn" i suggest increasing the intensity of your workouts chimchim. Two of the best ways are to increase the weight or shorten the ammount of time in between sets (less than a minute). You may be using too much weight also, start with a lighter weight and do 15 reps. Feel only the muscle you are targeting being oused (this is key) then add some weight while maintaining that feel. Try not to use other muscles, iscolate the ones you are trainging. And finally do at least 7 sets of EACH excersise. If you cant do a set of 10-13 reps its too much.

After reading this post I ran out and bought the book. I haven't really gotten to the training section yet, but even the history behind the sport is fascinating!

I've read that the book is 800 pages!! Does the book contain lots of routines from different top bodybuilders or just Schwarzenegger's routine-which was do lots of set and reps? I have this dilemma of whether to buy the Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding or Mike mentzer's 200 and somethng pages of High Intensity Training. Anyways for anybody interested the best place to find out where to get any kid of book cheaper is allbookstores.com. That site will refer you to the cheapest site whether amazon.com, half.com, alibris,etc..
