Hi guys. I'm one of the growing numbers who is on the Atkins weight loss program. This is a low carbohydrate diet, which allows you to eat plenty of protein and fat. As well as losing weight, I also want to tone up. The weight is coming off but because it is a low carb diet, my energy levels are not as high as they could be. Don't get me wrong, I'm not tired or sleeping all of the time. On the contrary. I only find that my energy levels let me down whilst endurance training, such as running. Can anyone assist me with food types, which are low in carbohydrates but will boost my energy levels?

Welcome, I beleive the simple answer there may be no, short of boosting your energy in short term or fake ways. Most posts i've read here from people who have tried this said they didn't have enough energy.

As i understand it this diet is actually designed for "couch potato" type people. But if it is working for you a lack of energy might be the price.

I agree with Jingo, you need the carbs for the energy. Maybe after you've lost all the weight you wanted, you might want to start incorporating carbs back into your diet.

Thanks guys. I'll have to think about it when I've lost the last few pounds. More carbs more running. That is my goal eventually.

Hi Jaqs, do you cycle your carb intake? Maybe that can help you to have more energy for working out (I know that it helps for me!)
Also make sure of eating some carbs in the meal straight after work out for recovery.
Good luck!
