im 5'10 145 and sick of being skinny. i work 40 hours a week and am a full time student so i sont have much time. im not a complete novice at working out but i have taken the past 6 months off and am ready to get started again. i only workout out my upper body and when i kept at it id bench 115-8 reps 125-5 135-5 145-3 155-3 and kept going till i burnt out which was usually at 165-1 175-0 or 1. i then would do skull crushers, dips, and close grip bench. i have an oylmpic weight bench with a curl bar as well. any pointers on gaining weight, gaining muscle, what supplements to take, how and when to eat, when to take the supplements or anything thing that you think would help me...my goal as of right now is to get my weight up to 160 and bench 225 consistently...any help would be great, thanks

Well, I am one of the skinnest ppl out there, 6'1 and 154lbs, where i was 135 when i graduated highschool and 160 at the begining of the year...all of that was fat until I joined the workout program here, I have shed most of the fat i had without loosing to much weight. I am back to the size i was when I graduated but my weight is no where near what it was. My suggestion, join up on this site like I did. I take a whey protein suppliment and also have started taking a weight gainer suppliment due to an inability to get enough of anything in my college diet. I am 6 week into the program and I can notice where things are heading. Starting to see a 6-pack poking through for the first time in my life (I never had one even when i was 135lbs) and I dunno how to describe it persay, but its noticable that I am less skinny now...I am shooting for a year from now and hope that in that time, I won't be as skinny at all. Good luck.

I forgot to point out, I had a very unhealty diet my entire life and only relyed on my metabolism to keep me thin...Now I eat as healthy as possible, but if it isn't apparent in my last post, ya gotta put on some weight.....I gotta get more myself. I just wanted to get rid of the fat I had this semester and tone up, this summer...I'm bulking!

dude don't just lift with the upper body. the legs gain a lot of muscle there too when they are trained. and if you just keep up with just upper body you will b like a tank turret on bicycle wheels, not cool. the lats gain a lot of muscle too when they are trained. legs and back pack a lot of pounds on.:dumbbell:-------------- free your mind -Logger |

I train at home with only bench, dumbells and barbells. I only use my bench for the chest exercises - bench press, incline, flies, butterfly. I dont even use the leg extensions. If you choose the free weight only option you should be able to get in all the exercises you need for bulking up.-------------- Willing is not enough, we must do. He's right; numerous studies have shown that core exercises and compound movements will build your "show case" muscles faster than any isolation exercise. The basic rule to remember, as logger said, is that you are in for wet and cold days when you start firing cannons from a canoe. Build from the center out.

When I was younger I was really skinny, I could eat as much as I wanted and never gain a pound. I started to drink a supplement called Ensure. It helps you to gain and maintain a healthy weight. Also you should go to your doctors and get your thyroid levels checked out. That is the control center for your metabolism, you could have an overactive thyroid, and need medication. It's a more common problem in women but is not that uncommon in men.
Hope you figure it out!:) Amanda |
