Hey guys, I have never trained back and chest together but have been tempted to try it ( I just have not done so because of a little voice in my head telling me that this would be wrong). Just wanted to know if that "voice/instinct" is mistaken!!!

it is wrong those muscles are huge and should not be worked together. Their are several reasons for it i will give you one say your normal workout days are like this:
1. Chest and Bi's 2. Back and Tri's 3. Shoulders and Calves 4. Legs Now thats normal say you worked your Chest and Back together and the next day you did Bi's and Tri's. Now because you did back and chest your secondary muscles were already worked that being your bi's and tris and would be fatigued when you went to work them and that would be overtraining. So thats just 1 reason why not to work them if you need more reasons just ask me when I have more time |

hmm I know it's also a good thing to train back and chest together. It's a form of a superset. One opposing muscle will contract as the other one goes into a deep stretch . This is also why we usually train biceps and triceps together, quads and hams.
Supersets are great if you're building mass as well. -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. Now for the love of god...put the donut...DOWN!!! -cupcake- |

actually supersetting joining muscles is better like all pulling movements (back and bi's , or pushing movements chest and tri's) I do supersetting for a couple reasons
1. I am short on time so it gets me doing 2 muscle groups at the same time and saves time in the gym 2. It shocks the muscles which is needed from time to time. As much as i like cupcake I cant really agree with her on doing back and chest together especially for a male who wants to gain size I just dont think its a good idea as Chest and Back are 2 of the biggest sets of body parts that are worked on. Thats why if you look at any pro's workouts you will never see them have a split where they do big body parts together. ============ Quoting from the_cupcake: hmm I know it's also a good thing to train back and chest together. Either will work fine. Antagonist groups together(push/pull) also work well together. Any solid training scheme can work....just don't stay with the same thing for 2 long. Change up every few weeks, that is perhaps the greatest workout scheme of all.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Both would work fine as bb1 said. You just need to take a day off after doing it to avoid the problems in bbronswy first post. They both add to the many variety (as bb1 said) of workouts that can be used to shock the muscles in to new growth. Doing back and chest on a regular basis can be detrimental as they are both large muscles and need more recovery time so be sure to take the next day off if you do this.-------------- Seeking out motivation does not motivate you to seek out results. - Paul |

I was actually hesitant to post since this is mostly male territory and stuff :P but I'm opinionated.
don't worry bbronswyk2000, I like you too. Now, can I please borrow the camera so I can take after pics? :) -------------- The best victories are won not by adversity and brute force. Learn the enemy and overcome it. Now for the love of god...put the donut...DOWN!!! -cupcake- |

back and chest is fine man, I do them together my self during cheerleading season ,cause i can only do a 3 day split in season. When your back is pumped and chest is pumped you will feel huge after yoru work out, also the extra blood flow constantly will help the work out even more. Arnold swarzaneger(sp) did that work out.
You can train the next day, just make it legs, or some cardio. -------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

that was what I was planning
1st day : Chest , Back 2nd day : Legs 3rd day : Shoulders, triceps, biceps But should the Back be trained first since it is larger than the chest? Or doesn't it matter if I do either muscle group first? ============ Quoting from bigandrew: back and chest is fine man, I do them together my self during cheerleading season ,cause i can only do a 3 day split in season.
