Hi
I went to the gym earlier with my friend and decided that as i'm going on holiday in a week, i would make my last session a really good one. I started on leg extensions and dropped the weight a couple of times to fatigue my quads. Then i went straight to squats and did a total of about 4 or 5 sets with various weights (like 65kg, then 70kg, then 65, then 60 or something). During each set (as usual), my lower back was hurting as usual, but i really pushed myself (i usually only do 1 set of squats) and it after, it felt like i'd done loads of deadlifting, it was aching badly. Then i went to the leg press and after about 2 heavy sets and a negative rep, the right side of my spinal erectors started hurting. I tried to put my leg up onto the pressing platform bit to see if i could do more without pain, but it really hurt to lift my left leg.
On the bus on the way home as well, i couldn't pick up my bag from the seat in front because my back hurt too much and when i get home, i couldn't get into bed properly.
Have any of you had this before? I've never had this specific problem in my back before and i don't know if i've caused myself permanent damage or not. What should i do???
Thanks
Peter

First of all NEVER NEVER "work thru the pain" that is a misleading statement. If at anytime you have a sharp unbearable pain stop!!!!!!! Ok that said what kind of pain is it a shrap pain or just a dull throbbing pain? Also I am not sure how heavy 60kg is but if you are doing squats and you back is hurting that bad you are either using too much weight and or not using right form. I would ice it take some asprin and if it does not get better in the next 24-48 hours go to a doc.....next time start out lighter and take it easy for at least 3weeks. I think you should go see a doc now cause of the lack of ability to move right...

usually, i would use 80-85kg on squats, but i did leg extensions beforehand. Just sitting down now, i have a dull aching pain, but when i move into a position where it hurts, it's quite a sharp pain. When i was doing the squats, it was aching like a deadlift would (although a bit more), i got the pain after the leg press though. I think my form was ok because i had my back pretty straight, head up and i had my training partner make sure it looked ok.
I just hope i'm ok for my holiday...
Thanks
