I've been doing more so a powerlifting for power style workout for a while and i'm switching back to bodybuilding( higher reps)se if I can lean up a lil bit.......nwo her my question
bench, militaries, squats I can up the reps for more skulpting and defintion however few things puzzle me.... Deadlifts and cleans........shoudl I cut the clean out for a while......( I don't do it but every other week anyways). Also deadlifts, shoudl i raises the reps up too? I mean it don't seem very body building even if I do raise the reps. also glute ham should I keep this as well, cause it seems more for strength than for body building? -------------- if you want sympathy......from me... look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

I only ask cause I go tmy deadlift up pretty good, and I didn't wanan lose all that good strength. Geneticlly i'm gonna have a thick trunk lol, everyone in fam does, just looking to get lil more "cut". Show off some this mass lol -------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

bigandrew,
Actually, keep the deadlifts the same. Maybe up them a bit by doing 10 - 6 - 4 reps through 3 sets. Deadlifts are a great way to maintain your size while bodybuilding. Whenever you go from powerlifting to bodybuilding, you still want to do some of the basic movements done in powerlifting to maintain your shear mass while becoming more lean. You just don't do them as often. In bodybuilding you need both to create a truly awesome physique. -------------- Seeking out motivation does not motivate you to seek out results. - Paul Post mark - SeptemberWW - Post mark |

Tell that to Ronnie Coleman! HE does 800lb deads for reps in his normal routine! Deadlifts will keep your muscle there man never give them up...that said you may want to switch them from a every week occurance to a biweekly thing...good luck!-------------- LIFT HEAVY! BA, you are really looking at this wrong. You don't have to change your workout per sey, more reps will not do you alot of good. Keep the weights high, reduce your rest time, maybe add in some isolation type moves for the arms, shoulders and chest for instance....but in the end it relates to diet! If you have been doing all these compound movements all this time, the entire muscle bellies should be developed, to see them defined it is a matter of...I am sorry, this may not be what you want to hear, but no matter how you change your workout, you will not see the results you are looking for without the proper diet to accompany it.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

Exactly what bb1 said. Most bodybuilders do not change reps/weight at all when going through different phases. The difference between a mass phase and a cutting phase is diet. Like Mutt's sig, "LIFT HEAVY! BECOME STRONG, LIKE BULL!", my favorite *grin*.-------------- Seeking out motivation does not motivate you to seek out results. - Paul Post mark - SeptemberWW - Post mark |

Yes thanks again everyone, i'm aware of my diet, and I keep that pretty clean. Howeve ri'm mainly changing cause i've kinda tapered off a lil bit on my strength and size, and I actually get bigger for some reason, from doing higher weight. -------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

btw I have reinstated some supper sets back into my routine.........So should one movement be heavy? and the othe rbe higher reps?
example... bench press 10 10 8 6 flys 15 15 15 somthing like this? Also, can bands still be used? I'm sorry i'm just used to the magizine"hype" that to body build reps need be higher than 8 , cause it "skulpts" more? -------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |

Going from powerlifting to bodybuilding is a bit trickier than vice-versa. When going from bb to pl, it is a simple matter of increasing your calories, and pouring on the heavy weight with a limited amount of reps to get stronger. On the other hand, pl to bb takes a bit more care. The body is used to a certain weight range, and it is very adept at seeing sensing if this much muscle is not needed anymore, to break it down and use it for fuel. Muscle is an extra load on the body anyway it does not want, so it will quickly cannabalize what it does not need. So, keep the weights high, try to ease into things. The object is to let your diet and cardio do the fat burning for you. On supersets, it would indeed be wise to do a heavy/light type. This works well in your case.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

hmm? really Intresting read, before the mutt international challenge I was mainly doing body building "style". So basicly, high reps over say 15 are usless except for warm ups, and isolation excercises?-------------- if you want sympathy......from me...in a dictionary look between symphony and syphillis.......there you\'ll find it! |
