Barbell shrug problem

I am sorry to ask this but would like to know a solution. I keep having this problem every time I do this lift. When shrugging the weight up I keep hitting my private parts with the bar. funny as it may seems I would like to know what to do about it. Or should i just be happy that I am that big. LOL

LOL... maybe you could tuck it in your sock or belt it up. use dumbbells if you cant find a solution with the barbells.
try wearing tighty whites instead of boxers, and im serious on that one.

lewdog - I'm assuming your question was serious :) but you can also do shrugs on the standing calf machine. You might get some looks but it can isolate your traps and if you still have that problem, .... well then, you really do have a problem.

Don't worry. You're not the only one that has that problem. To put it nicely, I just let 'em ride the bar. That's all I can do. I can't find dumbbells heavy enough or I'd opt for that.

You probably have problems with deadlifts, too. I don't think there's really a solution for this...

I just deal with it. Unless of course it hurts a lot LOL but really just work thru it.

You might benifit by switching to dumbbell shrugs. That might keep things away from your unmentionables a little better....unless its growing out of your side. LOL

Try bending your legs a little bit a your knees, I do this and it helps a little bit. Also, my gym just got a new bar that works great. Not sure what it is called but you step inside like a square thing and put your arms at your sides. I know, not a really good job at explaining this dumb thing but does anybody know what I am talking about. It is actually pretty cool and works great.

lol!!! Guys you're so funny! Why don't you try the famous those thing thing that the hockey players wear to protect their private parts??

Seriously, you should do your barbell shrug more slowly and then you will think about your private part and you'll probably not hit it!

Thanks for all the help guys. I try dumbbells but usually i like to do barbell right after the dumbbells. I will try a figure out something. If i cant I guess I will just go with the flow.

I do wear tighty whities and it is still a problem. And yes deadlifts are a problem too but not as bad as the old shrugs.
