Hey BB1, and/or anyone else who wants to read this. I was browsing my other favourite forum :) and came across this thread on sports nutrition. While it looks pretty good to me, the sources are pretty much the normal. Could you take a look and maybe offer any thoughts?

Well, first glance it is an irresponsible post at best. Well written, so I can see where folks can take it as fact. This is the problem with a good writer as opposed to someone with real knowlege that can pick it apart and go, wait a minute....

First off the poster sites everything is scientific fact, backed up by pub med studies...so where is the study to back up for instance the body can only use 1.7 gr. of protein per kg.?

This is a blanket statement at best....how can one say that? There is no reference to the type of diet they are on, how many other nutriteints they take in(carbs, fat), as for instance carbs are protein sparing, so you will in fact need less protein if you are trying to gain and taking in alot of carbs. But what if you are carb intolerant? What if you are a low carb eater?

Fact is, the body will use whatever it needs to maintain its functions. If the body needs one gram of protein, it will use one, if it needs 70 gr., it will use that.

Digestion is not an immediate thing. What if you eat a high calorie meal(lots of protein), and then go to work and have a very hectic day, lots of energy expenditure? Will the body not use the nutrients available?

Protein can easily be used for glucose for example. Following his protein logic, he is saying unequivically that the body will discard any "extra" protein. So, if you are a low carb person, would one not soon starve to death? How is the body going to have some "magic" number that anything over that is automatically discarded? Nonsense...

Only got that far, will read more later. Not enough time now.
