Is beef jerky a good protein food because it's low in fat?

mmmm...think so...I eat it when I'm traveling instead of junk from the gas station...probably high in salt though...we'll wait for the experts opinion I suppose.

It is like anything prepackage, ready made foods. It can be good but READ the labels. Look for ones lower in fats and sodiums.

Yeah, it is not bad. Nitrates, but no worries.

I also eat a bagel with Peanut Butter and then stacked with banana slices (1 whole banana) almost every morning for breakfast, would that be a good morning starter?

I think it would depend on what you're trying to achieve. The bagel will be high in carbs, same with the banana.Peanut butter has alot of protien...but alot of fat as well. For me...trying to lose some inches around the middle...this wouldn't work very well.

My mistake in not telling everyone what i'm trying to do. I'm 16 and around 167 pounds and I play football, basketball, and baseball. I'm trying to gain muscle mass, but not so much fat.

I think oats(if you can stand them)along with some egg whites would do you better.A better form of carbs in the oats than the bagel...a better form of protien in the eggs.A tsp of natural peanut butter will improve the taste of the oats and give you some more protien...but you have to watch how much PB you use.I use bananas more as a treat than anything else...lots of sugar and carbs..but that's just me.You can look through the stickies at the top of this forum at the "healthy food" list and put together some ideas...again you may want to wait on the experts for a more specific amswer to this question,I'm just a novice.

JoeRob, I agree with KC_72 on this one. I eat about the same thing myself. It's a good way to get in some good carbs and protein without all of the unnecessary fat or salt for example. I'm just a beginner myself, but I find these are great choices. I try to change my breakfast up with some variation, but I pretty much always include a good ol' bowl of oats. :)

The protein in pb is pretty incosequential, it is not very well absorbed, weak in a couple amino acids for the profile. I would have a protein source with it at the very least.
