I have read that beer contains Maltose--a very high glycemic carbohydrate. I also have read that high glycemic carbs should be consumed immediately after working out for a post-workout recovery meals to increase the absorption of the carbs into the muscles. So I was wondering if it would be wise to drink a couple non-alcoholic beers after working out, along with some whey protien. Not combined obviously.

I don't think that would be wise at all. You should just drink some high sugary stuff with the whey protein such as gatorade and powerade.

Thanks for the advice, but could you give me a reason why not beer? I mean, I know it is stigmatized as a bad beverage, and because Maltose is a high glycemic carbohydrate, it is bad to have most of the time and certainly in excess, but for post workout recovery nutrition, wouldn't it work well? Also, I'm talking about non-alcoholic beer, so you don't get the empty calories in the alcohol.

What about beer at other times? Should you steer away from it?
