Hi everyone! I start the ft beginner program in the am, and have been walking 20 minutes on the treadmill every day for the last week to get my body ready for working out, since i've never really had a work out regimen before. I want to gain strength and increase endurance, as well as lose weight but i figured if i concentrate on the first two that will come along with time too :) I've tried to set realistic goals for myself. I plan on applying to be a police officer in a year in which i will first have to pass a rigorous physical course. Im very serious about getting in shape for that, and i have the first of many questions im sure i'll encounter in the next year: I plan on running every morning along with the ft resistance training, but since im just starting out it will be awhile before my running could really count as good "cardio", should i add cardio 3-4x a week or would that be overtraining? Any advice anyone could give me would be appreciated. Thanks and wish me luck! :)

Welcome and good luck to you Meggie5918.
The cardio can be done4-5x a week. Just make sure you know what your max hr should be and start of by trying to hit 65% of your max and work up to 85%.
No matter how long you are doing the cardio, every minute counts. So, don't worry about what doesn't count.
To find out your max heart rate subtract your age from 220.
Then see what 65% of that is and 85%. You want to work up eventually to the 85%.
Hope this helps.
