After some trouble in the family, I stopped muscal training completely, i chose beginner because i didnt know what 2 expect from the site- now ive looked at my fitness plan it seems a little to easy and I dont think I will see results, It will take alot longer!
Tell me if i should go to intemidiate, because I think I should but i dont know what to expect from that one either  If your wondering why ive come on this site, its because ive lost a little confidence from not working out so I need this site to boost it and get out there again!! Im young and love to exercise as it makes me alot happier than not doing it:big_smile: Peace out, comment much aprieciated  |

What seems easy about it? Your profile says you are an 18 year old female and I would think beginner would be where you need to be.

I would increase the amount of weight you are using if it seems too easy. I started out at intermediate and that was pretty easy for me, but I have always been active in some way. You could also move up to intermediate and see how that looks for you. I also don't think that age or gender have anything to do with what level you start out at, it depends on how active you are. How long has it been since you've worked out?

Maybe I did not type that correctly. I was not implying anything by the fact that she is female. I meant to say that was the only info she gave and we can not determine anything by it. Unless someone has been training for a while, at 18, beginner level is where you should be. And please do not take offense to this but if intermediate is easy for you, then you are not putting in enough effort.

& KA-- if i was you I wouldnt go any further, if you have 'advice' then much love, but prejudice is not wanted! exactly how would you know the amount of work being put into a workout is? Like i said stop, because your talking out of your arse! |

KA-Sorry if I sounded rude, I didn't mean to if I did. I just don't think age or gender alone can determine anything, I'm sure there are young kids, like 14 or 15 who could do the advanced workout. I've been working out since I was about 13, regularly since about 16, and my dad's a huge fitness buff, so I've always trained hard to make sure I can always keep up with him haha. It's not that I'm not putting in enough effort, exercise has just always been a big part of my life.

I don't know how anybody can determine what level somebody should be at without ever having seen that person working out. Everybody's different, and it is, in my opinion, impossible to take somebody's age and gender and use that information to solely judge what level that person belongs at. I know that I am not perfect when it comes to working out, I'm sure I have some form issues and whatnot, and I don't consider myself advanced yet, but please don't judge me or anyone else because of age and gender. Once you have actually seen somebody in action, then you can judge them on what level they are. But if you've never even seen someone in person, much less in the gym, there's no way you can tell for sure what level they're at, so please don't try to tell me.

No one is judging anyone here. Simply put, 0-1 year is a beginner. 1-2years intermediate. 2+ Maybe advanced. I think what is the issue is exactly what those mean. -------------- FOR MY WIFE: Her little ring was a little thing but it was all that i could afford now shes mine all mine till the day i die and i never wanted nothing more 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I agree with that 100%. I know that somebody obviously can't be at an advanced level within the first year of working out. I just felt as if some people were basing their advice on only age, which I don't believe is right. It should be based on the amount of time you've been working out. I guess everyone has a different perception on what each level means. To me, advanced it being in top shape in both strength and endurance. You can be as strong as you want, but if you can't run half a mile, you're not at an advanced level, or vice-versa. Again, it's just my opinion though, and I think everyone's will be different.

NO age is a HUGE thing. i would not train a 12-14 yr old like a 24 yr old. Also a 65yr old would not train like a 24.....does that make sense?-------------- FOR MY WIFE: Her little ring was a little thing but it was all that i could afford now shes mine all mine till the day i die and i never wanted nothing more 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Hi peeps... 7707mutt- It makes alot of sense, I totally get where your coming from with age difference. Its just a matter of how fit a person is at a certain age... Ive trained and worked out since 14 1/2yrs of age I'm 18 in february, and have alot of strenght behind me, its a fact of people being prejudice and asumming that young girls do not have strenght and power like a man would! This is not aimed at anybody on this site but age and sex does not come into it one bit! Anybody who would tell me different is only trying to convince there own perception on the matter!
example-- its like saying a fat man cannot be thin! Now we all know that isnt true! Its like somebody saying all men dont wash and look after them selves lol:big_smile: Men are not educated enough about females! its a fact! Yes a lad as a teenager, naturally grows muscles because of puberty and is easier to build them up from a young age!! What KA said before about putting the effort in huh if you ask me we have to put alot more effort in! It just made my blood boil how someone so small headed could pre judge my views on my matter of strenght!! PeAcE oUt PeEpS  |

Yes, I totally understand that!! But a 12-14 year old could technically be at an advanced level of fitness for his/her age, same as a 65 year old could be for that age bracket. I just meant that you can't look at me for example and go, "oh, she's only 18, therefore, she must be at only a beginners level", which I thought was happening in the beginning.

I've lifted for a few years and after a month or so off, went back to the beginner workout. I lifted on the "beginner" level on Monday night, and my shoulders, bi's and tri's are still sore. I agree with the others here. You probably aren't lifting heavy enough. You can make even the simpliest exercise a good workout if you push it hard enough.
And, on the topic of age and sex, not to beat a dead horse or anything..... Your body is still physically developing well into your mid twenties both men and women. We joke that my husband didn't quit going through puberty until he was 29! Your age CAN have an impact on your strength and endurance and it CAN change over time. To throw out the argument of "don't judge me just because I'm 18 and a girl" is defensive and silly. No one was judging anyone. And MY blood boils when women turn everything into a chance to yell "sexism", "I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!!!!! AND IF I HAD A PENIS, IT'D BE BIGGER THAN YOURS TOO!!!". Gimme a break. *sigh* Maybe I'm just upset that a new member is rashing on KA, who is great. Or, maybe it's the nicotine withdrawl talking. Sorry about that. :) |

No what happened is that not enough info was given at all....this is ok tho we got it all fixed i think. And to tell you the truth the term "advanced" is not going to be applied to a youth. I believe and I think most people with 5-10 years uder the iron would agree that it takes YEars of consistent training to be an advanced lifter. What does that mean really? It means that you can feel the body working as you lift. I can totaly fry my Triceps with one set....that took years to develop. That is an andvanced lifter. It also means that a 12-14 yr old is still growing and they need to be kept on a specific stlye of lifting and exercise. THat is all I meant....really too if I take a month off (which I have from time to time) I go back to a Beginners Workout.-------------- FOR MY WIFE: Her little ring was a little thing but it was all that i could afford now shes mine all mine till the day i die and i never wanted nothing more 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Haha, yup it's all fixed. I never wanted to turn it into an argument about how I felt that people were judging me because I'm a girl, because that wasn't it at all, I knew that wasn't the purpose! I was mostly concerned because I felt that people were implying that all 18 year olds should be in beginner workouts. I guess I just didn't like that generalization. I also know that 12-14 year olds are still growing and they need to train differently so as not to ruin their bodies. I also go back to easier routines and lighter weights if I take more than two weeks off, I almost have to work my way back into my normal workouts. And again, I never claimed to be advanced, I just didn't like being labeled as beginner based on age alone.
Thanks for helping to sort everything out and sticking with it though 7707mutt, I appreciate it! |
