(This was originally posted in the general exercise and fitness forum, but KC was very helpful and suggested I move it here since BB1 hangs out here and really knows his stuff )
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding benzodiazepines, specifically Klonopin.(Generic-Clonazepam)Hope I'm posting in the right spot...
I have been taking 1-2 mg a day for months now(it's been more recently because I've developed a tolerance)for anxiety. I've noticed that my metabolism isn't what it used to be. I gained 20-25 lbs in 1-2 months from another medication and have had a hell of a time getting back to where I used to be after discontinuing it. I've gone down to 150 and even with eating less calories, I haven't budged below that. This is the heaviest I've been in my life.
Believe it or not, I haven't been able to find anything online to support that Benzos, specifically Klonopin, slow down a person's metabolism. I thought maybe I'd get a clearer answer here. Much TIA.

Have you been hungry? One gastro side effect is increased appetite. Very common.

Thanks for the quick reply BB1...actually, my appetite is about the same. It might be because I've been less active, although not by much...my metabolism has always been pretty good, but then again, I think I was more active then.

Well, then it is probably not a side from Klonopin.
Can you post your current diet, stats and activity level?

My stats...23 year old female, 5'6", 150-155 lbs.
It's hard to post my diet because it changes on a daily basis...how much I sleep, when I eat, what I eat, always changes. My activity level pretty much remains the same...sedentary. I don't have the $ right now to join a gym and have had a hard time getting the motivation to go running/do my Pilates tape. Now that I've really thought about it, and am seeing it, I realize it's gotta be the inconsistency and lack of activity. I was comparing my metabolism to how it was a few years ago...but I guess more is different now than I thought. =/
Thanks for your help.
