Hi everyone, I'm 15 and I play football. Currently I am lifting weights in my offseason. I work out 4 days a week (Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday). I do things like squats, hang cleans, bench press, and some other small lifts. I have trouble eating a lot, so I'm about to start taking whey isolate. How much should I take everyday? Right now I'm thinking about taking 3 servings, each with 20 grams of protein everyday. I would take one in the morning, and one after my workouts, but when would be a good time to take the third serving? Should I be taking more or less? And also, how much, if any, should I be taking on off days?

Thanks for your help!

P.S. Is the whey isolate from American Sports Nutrition good in terms of taste and quality?

not three times a day?
by weight and what you eat from whole foods.
So if you weigh 160 pounds ensure your diet contains 160 grams protein maximum(don't waste money on excess food, it turns to fat). use this sites nutrition tracker to see what is in your food that you eat. Always keep fat low as advised. take enough protein(whey) as you need, to hit the grammage required. importantly though get 2o+ grams in before training and again up to an hour after training... and sleep on protein if trying to gain mass. ensure your breakfast is toast, fruit or fibrous in content.

How long before a workout should I take it? And should I still take it when I wake up in the mornings? Oh, and if you get more protein than you need, what happens to it?

it all depends on your diet, i take it once a day where i use to take it twice a day, it all depends on your goals and what you want to do with your body...

Don't take a protein drink in the morning. Instead, just eat a big, solid, rich breakfast. Much better than some liquid drink which would just go right through you. Your body only absorbs so much protein. If you get more protein than you need, your just gonna crap it out. Good example is taking too many protein shakes. You're gonna feel it and pit stops will happen frequently

I think I will stick two three shakes a day, because the foods I eat aren't very high in protein and I can't really control what I eat (I basically have to eat what my parents buy :P). One in the morning, one before my workout, and one after my workout. I'm thinking of taking just half a shake before my workout and then finishing it before I sleep. How long before my workout should I take protein? I work out at 4 p.m. Also is the whey isolate American Sports Nutrition any good?

Thanks for your help everyone! :)

Oh man, three shakes a day. May the force be with you.

Take one of your three shakes right after your workout because this is when your body needs it the most.

I advise when you have the money, take time to go to the grocery store and pick up small meals to replace protein shakes once in a while.

I don't think three a day should be too much of a problem since I don't get a whole lot of protein in my diet. And I guess I can always change it if it causes trouble ;) Am I supposed to take shakes on off days?

Should I take as many shakes as I do on workout days or go down to two or one? I currently work out 4 days a week but our coach is cutting us down to 3 soon :( he thinks we need more recovery time.
Thanks for your help :)

hey buddy i play highschool football too and im just 2 year older than you , and take a whey protein shake that i purhased at GNC, does that containers directions advise you on how often you should take that stuff ,mine does, my container advises me to take on dose 1 hour before my workout and 1 dose right after my workout, and for maximum benefits 3 hours after that, but i only do that if i feel really burnt out or ill take it the next day on my off day if im really tired, yes working out 3 days a week would be a great idea , because your muscles dont grow when you working out they only grow when you're resting. well good luck.

p.s. what position do you play and what state do u play in?
