I am about to head out to let my rescued coons go. We all got too close to these guys and are going to cry like babies this morning. Letting them go on 23000 acres with room to roam and no fast moving cars for 5-6 miles. You have to use 4 x4 to get to this place.
On the sweet side.... my daughter has been wanting a dog of her own. We went to look at some chocolate labs and came home with 2 new pups(Riley a girl and Mason a boy). 4 dogs now....yup I have sap written all over me. ok getting close to the wildlife management area time to bawel like a 2 year old....:( -------------- My Catahoula did it. Aww, but you'll feel good once you see them free again.
Awww, puppies! It will be a long time for me. I have four dogs as well and that is our limit here. They're sweet but they're so damn needy! I run to the store and come back and they act like I abandoned them. LOL. I love dogs! So, does your daughter get both puppies to call her own? Lucky girl! |

Nadine, it takes a special kind of person to foster and care for dogs knowing eventually in the end they will have to give them up. I admire you for that but I am sure you have made a huge impact in their lives with all of the love and care you've shown them.
I love chocolate labs too, they are so loveable. -------------- Bettia You Get What You Train For! - Unknown |

These are some of the best I have seen in years and I would be happy to fly one out to you.-------------- My Catahoula did it. With all the stuff going on in my life, relocation, selling home, buying new home, it would be too much for me to handle a big pup at this time...plus I've got the short little oreo cookie to think about and even though he is small, he is a handful! Georgiagirl - I bet you will have more coons next year :)
Hurray for puppies! i recently saw a magnet that said "Anyone who thinks you can't buy happiness has forgotten about puppies." So true :) -------------- Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak. Ehh.... I am just a sap for furry creatures. Wanted to drive back out there for the last 2 nights to go get them, but know they will be happier outside. Well except they cant find pork chops, marshmallows and cheese cake out there. I just keep pictureing one (Billy) trying to convince the other coons to rub his belly.-------------- My Catahoula did it. Sap for furry creatures... well, I'm their bitch. A few years ago we were avid bird feeders. We live on a boat now so we aren't anymore. Anyway the coons were constantly stealing the suett feed that we put out for the tweeters. I tried everything to stop them. I read about cayaene pepper being a good deterant to squirrels and coons and not bothering the birds because they don't have a soft palate. It was great and hilarious watching the squirrels react to the pepper 'cause I hate them. They would rub their nasty little fingers on their faces and cut flips from the burning pepper. I loved it. No, I'm not cruel, birders just hate the destructive little bastards and love payback.
Anyway, after dosing the little suette cages with cayanne, I was watching one night as a coon came after it. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been watching. The coon tasted the suette and cut a flip backwards...went and drank some water from the bird bath. Then the diabolical little SOB went back to the suette, pulled it off the fence and dragged it across the yard. He then slung it up in the bird bath, hopped up inside and rinsed it of and casually tossed it back on the ground. He or she then emitted some unhearable coon signal to his/her family and 3 babies waddled out and ate all my suette. I refer to his period in my life as the sqrirrel and coon wars. I lost...I'm forever their bitch...I know they laugh at me to this day...I hate them. -------------- From aboard MV The Shop Johns Island Charlie

Charlie.. that is exactly why I love coons. They are bar none the smartest creature on this planet! There was recently an article in the Georgia Times about an actual rocket scientist that has been trying to keep coons out of his feeders for 10 years and still has yet to figure out a way. These 2 had me whipped! (I have had 28 now but these 2 were "special") If they want something they find a way to get it. I wish humans were as determined as coons are.

I really don't mind the coons so much because they are smart and at least entertaining. Squirrels are my sworn enemies. If I were driving the car that swerves and wrecks avoiding the high fiveing squirrels, they would be road kill. I put corn on the ground for them but NOOOO they want my expensive designer birdseed and to tear up my "squirrel proof feeders.
I strung my feeders on wite across the yard. I then threaded wooden thread spools in a line on the wire. I cackled like Dr Strangelove when the little furry rat bastards would run out on the spools, the spools would roll and they would fall to the ground. I was winning...finaly. Then one day an evil squirrel puffed up his little ratlike squirrel chest and made the run out to the first feeder. He made it!!! Damnit!!! He hung from the wire and cleaned out the feeder. I worked on squirrel catapult to heave them into the neighbors yard but gave up finally. i guess i'm not Roman enough to master squirrel-a-pult technology. Anyway my next weapon was to thread old LP record albums that lay on top of the feeders hanging from the wires. When my wife got home that night she complained that it looked like the squirrels were having a sock hop in the back yard. That worked untill August when the albums all melted and drooped over the feeders. I gave up and took to drinking. -------------- From aboard MV The Shop Johns Island Charlie
