I've just measured my body fat% and it's told me 27% I know this is pretty high, but I would have expected it to be even higher still. I've 100lb to lose. I checked and double checked and even tried in lb and inches instead of kilos and cm's and it still told me 27%. According to the chart beside it Im only moderately over weight (only!) and yet Im classed as morbidly obese by my doc.
I don't know if I should be happy or annoyed to be totally honest. I know it's not the most accurate way to tell bf% but it would have to be close, wouldn't it? Now my mind is starting to roam the areas of "big boned" although Im not sure that plays a huge part in determining bf. Argh, can someone tell me if the bf% calculator is playing with my mind? BF% charts, calipers, electronic scales, all just give us a number to use as a guide. If you get 27, so be it.
At least you are able to face reality, and you are here. You can get a good program from here or your doctor and develop your body into a nice sculptured look with a little bit of exercise and a healthy way of eating. All depends what you wanna do. -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Your lucky, DeeTee, I have 78 pounds to lose (I may of lost a few, have to weigh in) and have now got down to 42.96%, there is still A LOT yet to lose! I did mine on www.mybodycomp.com wish I had a better device, but it will do for tracking for now. I can't believe I ever let it get this far!
Hope your feeling better with that cold, hang in there! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Donna don't pay any real attention to the bf% number that it gave you. It said my bf% is 37% and I'm 5'3" and weigh 140lbs and there is no way that my bf% is that high. Just ignore it and continue with your program. Measure your success in inches, not pounds or % and you will do fine. -------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

Although a lot of these methods aren't very accurate and it's no use comparing your bf with calipers to your bf using a tape measure, what it is useful for is charting progress. So as long as you use the same method each time you are able to see a change.

Thanks peoples,
It's very interesting, the different ways to measure your weight loss. Im going to stick to my measuring tape, scales only disappoint me and bf confuses me. I guess my most effective way of measuring anything at the moment is my body, and it's very sore at the moment! I have to remember to warm up before pretending I can keep up with my 16 year old cousin and her dance routine! Can anyone recommend a good way of getting rid of muscle knots in your quads?  I thought my workout yesterday would have loosened me up but I was wrong, now I just hurt in other areas. Not to worry, having a great time, even if I hurt. Donna |

wow, what measurement did you use to how it so way off? Also I thought the calipers, if done correctly, are within 4% range? So if you got 12% that could mean 8%-16%. |

From my point of view 27% fat with over 100lb to lose is not that bad. My wife has a higher % of BF and she is only a few pounds overweight. (15 at the most) Don't let it get you down. How you see yourself is the most important thing.

Calipers aren't accurate if you have lost weight.....the skin is still stretched and "saggy" a lil bit. So when they pinch for fat, if you have extra skin.....well it gets picked up as well. Electrical indepandace works best for me personally......calipers say i'm like 21% electrial indepandance say i'm 18 or so...... -------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

if u measure it with one certain equipment id say stay with that same thing each time u measure yourself, even if it isnt acurate if your losing itll say it, besides who needs that crap id rather just have me a mirror :) i look back every now and then at my stats like id measure my body after every routine i do so every 8 or so weeks maybe more or less id measure me waist legs arms chest and all the rest thats my bf checker along wif mirror :)
oh btw(by the way), when you measure your chest thats also measuring your back along with it is there a way of "just measuring ur chest" side to side or fuk it my chest looks smaller den it did bout month or so ago, but im doing heavier benching and flyes and dumbell presses and everything and when i measure it, it was about a half inch or so bigger then the time before i measured:O or maybe it dun look as big cuz ive possible put on fat? eh lol ive put on about 1 - 2 kilos about 2.2 - 4.4 pounds so if im lifting heavier weights it cant all b fat .. can it? lol i dno confusing to me lol mayb i should get me a body fat measurer mabobby lol |

Um, I think it might have become confused over distribution. My current measurements are 40/33/35. Might that explain it?
