Had body fat checked today along with measurments. How accurate is the infrared method of checking body fat? Their machine says my body fat % went up. My scale says it went down. I don't expect them to come up with the same numbers, but i expect both to go down. Measurements got more symmetrical. My muscles feel more firm, and my strenght has gone up. Weight dropped by 9 lbs. A month has passed between weigh ins.

Have you checked with a measuring tape? If your clothes are looser, theres your guarantee. I don't know how accurate the infrared method can be.

Whatever method you use, it is best to use the same method with the same tester each and every time. That way you have a starting base, whether right or wrong in initial number, at least you will be able to tell if you are going in the right direction. I would suggest calipers, and you or the same person do the test each time at the same time of day at regular intervals, say every 2 weeks.
If you cannot get them, do as Carivan says. Throw out the scale, and go by how your clothes feel.

The measuring tape said i gotmore symetrical. One arm was bigger than the other, and other things like that. pants size has dropped over the last 2 months.

I am comparing 2 different methods of measurig body fat. Two measurements with IR method with bad results. My scale has better results ( down by 1% ). IR method was actually taken twice with 1 % point difference in a couple of minutes.
This is disapointing cause I am trying to gain some muscle while losing fat. I am trying to create a calorie deficit whike maintaining enough protien for my muscles. I usually get around 200g protien and thought this was enough. It seems as if I lost some muscle mass. Do you think a pro complex drink directly after workout would solve this?

If you are not taking a post workout shake, you are going catabolic. This can be very detrimental especially so on a caloric deficit. It is very beneficial to get anabolic as quickly as possible post workout if you trained hard.

infrared measuring? IS this what I think it is.....looking at body heat to see body fat? How can this be used to measure body fat? Musle produces heat like an engine while excercising.....body fat helps insulate the body......this is why whales have like 3 feet of blubber( fat) to help keep the warm. How can this be used accuratly?

If you are talking about an electronic bf scale such as a tanita, or other brand, I would stick with that method. Use one device onlyand of coarse the measuring tape. Make sure you do your bf at night before bed is best, and on an empty bladder.
